Though its origins are unknown, at some point the Giant Water Beetle was captured by Maximilian Spiel and was brought to fight in his mutation fighting ring. The Giant Water Beetle was used to attack H.E.A.T. headquarters to distract the team's members as Spiel's men kidnapped Godzilla so he could be brought to fight in the ring, Giant Water Beetle met Godzilla again in the arena, but was overlooked in favor of Rhinosaurus. The members of H.E.A.T. that were also trapped in the ring picked up pieces of Rhinosaurus' horn and stabbed Giant Water Beetle's legs with them. This caused the Giant Water Beetle to run into Godzilla's line of sight, and he was thrown into the arena's control tower, where he pinned down Maximilian Spiel under his weight.
