The series was first announced by SciFi Japan on May 18, 2016. Its first issue was released in August, one month after the closure of IDW's previous miniseries, Godzilla: Oblivion. Godzilla: Rage Across Time followed the model of Godzilla in Hell, with each issue featuring a new creative team. The first issue was written by Jeremy Robinson (Project Nemesis) with art by Matt Frank, marking his first non-cover illustrative work on a Godzilla comic since Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #25. The first issue featured covers from Bob Eggleton, Matt Frank and Ulises Fariñas.[1] Like each of IDW's previous Godzilla miniseries, Godzilla: Rage Across Time was five issues in length, and ran from August 24 to November 23, 2016. It was collected as a trade paperback containing all five issues after it ended. As of 2020, Godzilla: Rage Across Time is the last new Godzilla comic published by IDW, as no new Godzilla comics from IDW have been published or announced since the series ended.
Godzilla: Rage Across Time was released as a translated collected volume in Japan at the end of May 2019 by PHASE6, who previously released Godzilla: Rulers of Earth in Japan. It will be republished in English as part of the Godzilla: Unnatural Disasters trade paperback in May 2021, along with Godzilla: Legends and Godzilla in Hell.
