Help:New User Guide
| This page serves as a help page for Wiki-related tasks.
Before making changes, make sure they have been agreed upon.
So, you're a new user, and have just set up your account on the Wiki. Wikizilla is a very large and intricate website, and it may seem intimidating deciding where to start! This guide will serve as a general introduction to the site, as well as the first few recommended tasks you should carry out upon joining. This guide will also sum up some of the site's policies, as a general introduction to them and the site's standards.
Confirm your e-mail
When you registered your account, you should have received an e-mail asking for confirmation. It is strongly recommended that you click the link provided in this e-mail to confirm your account. While you are able to edit without a confirmed account, confirming your account allows you to gain significantly more privileges while you are on Wikizilla, including being able to change your avatar, send messages to other users via talk pages and more. Confirming your e-mail makes you an autoconfirmed user.
Upload an avatar, and edit your user page
Once you have confirmed your account, you can change your avatar. To do this, click on your username in the upper right hand corner, then click on Change avatar once you are at your user page, then follow the instructions. It is recommended that you also familiarize yourself with the wiki editor by editing your own user page.
Familiarize yourself with the policies and standards
As Wikizilla has recently forked from Wikia, it is imperative that we as a website keep up a good image so that we can surpass the old site. It's a complicated situation that's best suited for another page. Thus, it is recommended that you study the site's policies and standards, which can be found in the navbox at the foot of this page.
When a new film relating to any kaiju is released, please respect the wishes of other users and refrain from giving away any big spoilers that could potentially ruin the users' experience of the film. This applies to the chat as well and it is advised that you only speak about spoilers in private messages where they can not be publicly seen. New spoilers are marked and will likely be removed, but older ones that most people know about are left open to discuss.
Join the chat!
As you will probably notice when looking at the sidebar, Wikizilla has a chat room for users to take part in. Most of the admins and a good proportion of established users use this chat room very frequently, if not daily. If you need to ask a question, talk to an admin directly, or just want somewhere fun to hang out and chat, you've come to the right place. It is recommended that you read the chat policies when you first visit, as they are where the rules for the chat are contained.
Join the Wikizilla Discord!
Once you have become an established user on Wikizilla, there is a chance that you may also be eligible to join Wikizilla's official Discord channel (not to be confused with the Godzilla Wikia's channel). Links to this site's Discord are currently not handed out openly, and new users are decided on a case by case basis. In general, the experience in the Discord chat is similar to that of Wikizilla's chatroom.
Now that you're familiarized with the site, why not try diving on in and giving editing a go? Wikizilla's editor is very similar to ones used on Wikipedia, Wikia and other wiki websites; if you aren't familiar with it, don't fret. There are numerous help articles situated in the navbox at the foot of this page that can help you learn how to edit the site.
Above all else, remember to BE BOLD!
If you feel like you can do so, it's worth checking out the Things to do section under Helping Out on the main page. This handy section numbers all the articles that need work done to them, and any work in improving these articles is greatly appreciated.
