The Godzilla (ゴジラ Gojira) from the GODZILLA anime trilogy is an incarnation of Godzilla that first appeared in the 2017 Godzilla film, GODZILLA: Monster Planet.
It is the first incarnation of Godzilla to appear in an animated film, and is set to be the tallest onscreen incarnation of the character to date.
Name
The name "Godzilla" is a transliteration of Gojira (ゴジラ), a combination of two Japanese words: gorira (ゴリラ), meaning gorilla, and kujira (鯨 or クジラ), meaning whale. At one planning stage of the original film, the concept of "Gojira" was described as "a cross between a gorilla and a whale." The two words "whale" and "gorilla" describe Godzilla's traditional characteristics. The word whale represents his aquatic lifestyle and his bulky size. The word gorilla represents his sheer strength and the strategic thinking he uses when fighting against other monsters.
Contrary to popular belief, the name "Godzilla" is not the idea of the American distributor. Before Toho sold the original film to US distributors, Toho's international division had originally marketed an English-subtitled print under the title of Godzilla, King of the Monsters!, which was shown briefly in Japanese-American theaters. Toho came up with "Godzilla" as an English transliteration of the name "Gojira"." The Japanese-to-English translation method of the Americans in the 1950's also proved that Godzilla was the correct English translation of Gojira.

This incarnation of Godzilla has so far only been shown on a poster for GODZILLA: Monster Planet. This Godzilla closely resembles the MonsterVerse Godzilla, with a bulky body, a thick and short neck, large arms, jagged triangular dorsal plates, and a crocodile-like head with a relatively long snout. The only major visible physical difference between this Godzilla and the MonsterVerse Godzilla is the appearance of his dorsal plates, which resemble a combination of the MonsterVerse incarnation's plates and Godzilla's traditional maple-leaf shaped plates.
According to the film's executive producer Yoshihiro Furusawa, this Godzilla has grown as a result of ruling over Earth's ecosystem for 20,000 years, and is the tallest onscreen incarnation of the character to date, even exceeding the size of Shin Godzilla.[1]
Origins
Godzilla is the most powerful of the kaiju, gigantic creatures that menaced humanity for most of the 21st century. Godzilla first appeared in 2030, and quickly established himself as the king of the monsters by defeating the other kaiju. Humanity attempted to fight back against Godzilla, but even with the help of their alien allies the Exifs and Bilsards, were no match for his power. In 2048, the remnants of humanity were forced to flee Earth and relocate to the planet Tau-e in the Cetus constellation. When the human refugees discovered that Tau-e was uninhabitable, a group of "Earth Returners" traveled back to Earth aboard their ship Aratrum to reclaim the planet from Godzilla, only to find that 20,000 years had passed, with Earth now an alien ecosystem ruled over by Godzilla.
