Micro Super Battle: Godzilla vs. Gigamoth (ミクロスーパーバトル ゴジラvsギガモス,   Mikuro Supā Batoru Gojira Buiesu Gigamosu) is an unmade 1991-1992 Godzilla film.

History

Even before the release of Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, Toho was considering options for their next film. One of the projects they considered was the ambitious Micro Super Battle: Godzilla vs. Gigamoth, which was the first project involving a team of humans being injected inside of Godzilla, as well as the first to feature the monsters Gigamoth and Mechani-Kong. Eventually, the project split into two divergent paths: the first path retained the idea of humans being injected into Godzilla and Godzilla doing battle with Mechani-Kong, while the second focused on Godzilla battling Gigamoth. Ultimately, Toho chose to follow the second path, which resulted in the 1992 film Godzilla vs. Mothra.[1]

Plot

Godzilla comes ashore in the United States, with the nation's military constructing the giant robot gorilla called Mechani-Kong to battle him. Mechani-Kong utilizes its injectors to send a team of humans inside of Godzilla's body and try to shut down his nuclear reactor. However, radiation leaking from Mechani-Kong mutates the creature known as Gigamoth, which enters the fray as well. Now, as the humans try to battle Godzilla from the inside, Mechani-Kong, Gigamoth and Godzilla engage in a three-way battle from the outside.[1]

Trivia

  • At least two different concepts for Gigamoth exist for this film. One, designated as "Gigamoth B Type" in the book Heisei Godzilla Perfection, resembles a giant larva, while the other, "Gigamoth C Type", strangely resembles a gigantic bird rather than a moth.[1] It is possible that "Gigamoth" was simply a placeholder name given to Godzilla's primary opponent in the film, or that multiple creatures called Gigamoth were to battle Godzilla in the film.
