In the real world

  • Daiei releases Gamera Super Monster to cinemas on March 20.
  • Mayumi Okuwa is born on July 23 in Japan.
  • Tsuburaya Productions concludes its final Ultraman TV series for 16 years, Ultraman 80. While the series is a commercial success, the franchise is put on a semi-hiatus to allow the studio to work on other projects, ending the Showa era of a series which intentionally developed and grew from the Godzilla franchise. During the hiatus, several films and other media for the franchise are produced.
