History

Heisei series

Godzilla vs. Destoroyah

Following Dr. Ijuin's discovery that the Destoroyahs could be killed using cold temperatures, the JSDF deployed CLT-95 Maser Cannons and Type 90 Tanks armed with ultra-low temperature lasers and cadmium shells to engage the creatures. Alongside these units, multiple AH-64 Apaches were deployed, and laid down supporting fire on the creatures by bombarding the battlefield with rockets. The Apaches pulled back when it appeared the creatures were all dead, but the J.S.D.F soon learned otherwise. The creatures had all merged together into a single gigantic aggregate form.

GODZILLA (1998)

A pair of AH-64 Apaches in GODZILLA (1998)

As Godzilla fled the military in Manhattan, three AH-64 Apaches were ordered to follow and destroy the monster. Godzilla roared as it tried escaping the helicopters, who were following closely behind. When Godzilla jumped atop a tall building, one of the helicopters fired its heat-seeking missiles, which failed to lock onto the monster and hit the Chrysler Building instead, destroying its spire. The pilots continued to follow Godzilla to a ruined building, where they assumed that it was hiding. They fired the Apaches' guns and missiles, as roar of the monster seemed to come from the explosions. Unexpectedly, Godzilla appeared behind them, and immediately destroyed two helicopters with its claws. Godzilla then started to chase the last helicopter through the city streets. When Godzilla seemed to have disappeared, and the last pilot thought that he had outrun it, the monster swiftly rose from below and crushed the last helicopter with a single bite.

Godzilla: The Series

The Apache is also a recurring military vehicle in Godzilla: The Series, alongside the F-18 Hornet, the HMMWV and the M1 Abrams.

Shin Godzilla

When Godzilla came ashore south of Tokyo in his gigantic final form, the JASDF deployed numerous AH-64s along with JSDF ground units to attack the beast. All of their weapons proved useless against Godzilla and failed to halt his approach to Tokyo. Finally, the Prime Minister gave the order for JSDF forces to retreat, as the Americans deployed B-2 Stealth Bombers to deal with Godzilla instead.
