The Chameleon (カメレオン,   Kamereon) is a Godzilla clone kaiju created by TriStar Pictures that appeared in the Godzilla: The Series episode An Early Frost.

Design

In general, the Chameleon resembles Godzilla, but it has several unique physical characteristics. The Chameleon has a very strange head. Composed of three different appendages with claw/teeth at the end of each, it can be used to grapple with other monsters. It also has a mouth on its chest, eye-like organs on its shoulder and lower jaw and its default skin color makes it appear to be decomposing.

History

Godzilla: The Series

An Early Frost

The Chameleon was created by Cameron Winter using cells recovered from Godzilla, and was sent to destroy New York in order to frame Godzilla and provoke the military to destroy him using a new deadly chemical weapon created by Philippe Roaché. Godzilla arrived to battle the Chameleon, and during the battle the weapon was fired at the Chameleon, which caused it to crumble into dust. Following this, the military allowed Godzilla to return to the ocean in peace.

Abilities

According to Cameron Winter, he developed the Chameleon to have high resistance to Godzilla's atomic breath, and it appears to have a prehensile tail similar to an actual chameleon. However, the Chameleon's greatest asset was its ability to change the color of its skin flawlessly in order to blend in into its surrounding environment, allowing the Chameleon to easily hide among New York city's high-rise buildings and structures such as bridges.
