They flee on foot as Kong arrives to challenge Godzilla. An earthquake causes the volcano to erupt. Both monsters save the child: Godzilla on accident, his atomic breath destroying a magma flow headed towards them, and Kong on purpose, carrying them to safer terrain. - Toho much later considered another film featuring King Kong and Godzilla doing battle, Godzilla vs. King Kong, which was planned to be the third entry in the Heisei series of Godzilla films. However, due to legal complications involving the rights to King Kong, the idea was scrapped and replaced with Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. The two monsters will finally meet again in Legendary Pictures' Godzilla vs. Kong, due for release in 2021.
