"Volume of the Crab Yokai Taraba"

The Crab Yokai Taraba (カニ妖怪タラバ,   Kani Yōkai Taraba) is a crustacean yokai created by Toho that first appears in episode 149 of the 1974 yokai series, Go! Kotaro Ushiwaka, titled "Volume of the Crab Yokai Taraba."

Name

Taraba's name is derived from either tarabagani (たらば蟹 or タラバガニ) or simply taraba (鱈場), both Japanese terms for Paralithodes camtschaticus, or the red king crab.

History

To be added.

Abilities

  • Taraba relies solely on his giant, lumbering claws during melee combat. He appeared immensely physically powerful, snatching Nyudo's club straight from his hands and knocking Kotaro around during their confrontation.
  • Taraba is able to secrete a white paralyzing mist from his mouth, 'freezing' any affected areas of his opponents. This was used to completely halt Nyudo and impair Kotaro by paralyzing his leg.
  • Taraba's midsection is covered with a thick shell, making him incredibly durable; he was able to withstand several slashes from Kotaro's naginata.

Weaknesses

Due to possessing a protective shell on only his front side, Taraba's back becomes something of a weakpoint. He was easily knocked down by a shove to his back, and was ultimately defeated by being struck on the back of the head by the removable blade of Kotaro's naginata.
