Cryptocledius (クリプトクレディアス,   Kuriputokurediasu) is a plesiosaur kaiju created by TriStar Pictures that first appeared in the 1998 Godzilla: The Series episode, Leviathan.

Origins

Cryptocledius were aquatic long-necked reptiles, or plesiosaurs, that went extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period, in 65,000,000 B.C. However, it seems a number of the Cryptocledius somehow survived extinction.

History

Godzilla: The Series

"Leviathan"

After surviving the extinction of the other Cretaceous reptiles, at least two Cryptocledius lived deep in an ocean trench, and lived undisturbed until the discovery of the Leviathan spaceship brought scientists from the Humanitarian Environmental Analysis Team down to their level. One of the Cryptocledi attacked their vessel, but Godzilla came to defend them. Godzilla was able to fight off the Cryptocledius, but not for long.

When H.E.A.T. left the sunken ship in an escape pod, the two Cryptocledi converged on the pod, and were once again challenged by Godzilla. They worked together to try and defeat him, but ultimately, the Cryptocledi were both subdued with a rock slide.

"Monster Wars: Part 2"

A Cryptocledius was sent by Leviathan Aliens from Site Omega, on the Isle Del Diablo to eliminate H.E.A.T., who were approaching the island and battling the Giant Bat. Their battle raged on, and H.E.A.T. was able to emit a reverse frequency of the Bat's echolocation frequency in order to blind it. They then sent out a radar pulse to turn the bat on the Cryptocledius, which worked, allowing them to escape, but the Leviathan Aliens stopped the fight and called the monsters back to Site Omega. As they approached, H.E.A.T. abandoned ship in order to ride to Site Omega on the back of the unwitting Cryptocledius. All Monsters were then sent into the world's major cities to cause destruction. Cryptocleidus was sent to Hong Kong.

"Monster Wars: Part 3"

Cryptocledius continued its rampage until H.E.A.T. deactivated the Leviathan Alien control beacon. At that point it began to attack Leviathan Alien vessels until it was incapacitated by human forces.

Video Games

Roar

The Cryptocledius roars are derived from Humpback whale songs.
