Cyber-Godzilla (サイバーゴジラ,   Saibā Gojira, lit. Cyber Godzilla) is a cybernetic kaiju created by TriStar Pictures that first appeared in the 1999 Godzilla: The Series episode, Monster Wars: Part 2.

Name

Cyber-Godzilla's name comes from "cyber," referring to the monster's status as a cyborg, and "Godzilla." The nickname "Cyber-Zilla" comes from the fact the TriStar Godzilla's design was later trademarked as a new character called "Zilla" by Toho.

Personality

Cyber-Godzilla is completely under the control of the Tachyon aliens, though he is still able to recognize the second Godzilla as his son.

Origins

Cyber-Godzilla is the original Godzilla that nested in New York City in 1998. Following the creature's death, its corpse was taken to a military base for study. When the Tachyons overtook the base, they used their technology to modify Godzilla into a cyborg that was completely under their control, using it to turn the second Godzilla against humanity and recruit him to their cause.

History

Godzilla: The Series

Monster Wars: Part 2

Immediately following his Resurrection, Cyber-Godzilla was sent to eliminate Niko Tatopoulos and Mendel Craven who had broken into Sandy Point Military Base to rescue their friend from Tachyon control. the new Godzilla, Cyber-Godzilla's only living offspring arrived to protect Tatopoulos, but became conflicted by having to choose between parents. In his moment of hesitation, the Tachyons took control of him and the father and son worked together to try and eliminate the intruders. They were thrown off the humans trail, by them using their N.I.G.E.L. probe to play recordings of Nick's voice. Cyber-Godzilla then noticed them sailing away in a stolen military ship and fired missiles at them before the two gave chase. After arriving at Site Omega, all Monsters were then sent into the world's major cities to cause destruction. Cyber-Godzilla was chosen to attack Tokyo.

Monster Wars: Part 3

Cyber-Godzilla continued his rampage until the Tachyon mind control unit was destroyed. He was unaffected by this due to his implants, but he was then tasked with eliminating the H.E.A.T. team once again. As he prepared to do so, Godzilla chose Tatopoulos over him and fought to defend Earth. He was able to defeat Cyber-Godzilla through use of cunning tactics, and his leaping abilities. Godzilla burrowed underground, and blasted Cyber-Godzilla with his Atomic Ray as he peered into the hole before leaping on him and burning him yet again. Their quarrel continued until Godzilla tackled Cyber-Godzilla into the water and ripped off his chest plates and tore out his internal mechanisms.

Abilities

  • Cyber-Godzilla is armed with an atomic heat ray which is blue in color (an obvious reference to the Japanese Godzilla) as opposed to his son, whose atomic breath is green.
  • Cyber-Godzilla can fire up to eight devastating energy missiles from his dorsal plates.
  • Cyber-Godzilla can reflect sound-based waves and attacks back to their source using the disk on his chest, an effective weapon against the sonic screech of the Giant Bat.
  • Cyber-Godzilla retains his previous abilities prior to his modification, including an impressive running speed and jumping ability as well as an amphibious lifestyle. However, he is now much more resistant to attack.

Trivia

  • Cyber-Godzilla is a clear reference to Mechagodzilla and Mecha-King Ghidorah, being a cyborg.
  • Cyber-Godzilla may have partially inspired the Millennium Mechagodzilla, Kiryu, as both are previously dead kaiju that are resurrected using robotic technology and made to fight another kaiju of the same species as them. The largest difference between the two is that Kiryu is a biomecha with its skeleton, DNA, and nervous tissue as his only organic components, while Cyber-Godzilla is a cyborg with much of its organic body intact.
  • Cyber-Godzilla possesses a blue atomic beam and attacks Tokyo, both clear references to the Japanese Godzilla.
