"Distant Song" (歌遠,   Kanon) is the debut episode of Daimajin Kanon. It premiered on April 2nd, 2010.

Plot

One night in Japan, Misaki Kanon was disturbed by dreams of a rock guitarist changing into a creature with long white hair before finding herself standing in water in the countryside listening to folk singing when before her loomed an immense stone samurai in the middle of the city. The White haired creature attacked it before she awoke to another dreary day of rain in the city.

Elsewhere, her recently made ex-boyfriend was eating in a restaurant while the news told the story of the execution of Saiki Yoshihito, a man who murdered eight people in 2002's insisting he not be put to death before he could kill more people.. Something in the eyes of the killer unsettled him.

One month later in the Yamagata province, a man called Taihei stood in contemplation of a rock formation near a waterfall before the old man Juzo came to tell him that Ikechiyo was looking for him, and that the formation was just a rock, not believing the story he had told Taihei about its being the warrior Bujin, a slayer of demons. He then took off on a motorbike to meet with his friend. On the highway, exacting revenge on a car window litterer by catching his empty can and throwing back so that it landed on his hood ornament.

With Misaki now moved in to her new apartment in Chofu, she went into the city, where she was forced to witness her ex's band's success. The ex in question walked past a woman whose groceries had spilled in the street instead of helping, attracting the attention of the spirit of the murderer.

Ikechiyo had hitched a ride with a truck driver, and waited for Taihei to arrive with her ride growing increasingly lustful. Unfortunately for him, Taihei arrived. She left him with a kiss and went to meet her friend. The small creature posing as a hood ornament on Taihei's bike then leapt into her bosom. Elsewhere, three others discussed word of the two's meeting and the Ipadada problem in the city. Taihei revealed that his mission was to locate a girl who sang their prayer song whom he had known years ago when she was a child. While Taihei drove Ikechiyo home that night, Misaki's ex-boyfriend was approached in his sleep by the spirit of the Yoshihito the killer, who encouraged him to join him in his endeavors to kill more people. While walking through the city, Misaki found a secluded Chinese style ramen shop and stopped in to try it out. Back on the streets, the three associates of Taihei and Ikechiyo searched for the Ipadada, as one of them pushed a man in front of a bus. Following the screaming, the three found it trying to strangle a woman in her car, and did their best to fight it off, but it managed to escape. Taihei and Ikechiyo then arrived at the ramen shop just as Misaki was leaving. Apparently recognizing the now adult girl he had known all those years ago, he started screaming.
