Godzilla vs. The Thing

The Frontier Missile Cruisers shot at Godzilla from the water. They managed to shoot out the ground under him, causing him to fall into a hole. Additional missile strikes served to knock Godzilla down, temporarily dazing him.

Trivia

  • The sequence featuring the Frontier Missile Cruisers was originally filmed for the Japanese version of Mothra vs. Godzilla, but was deleted from the theatrical cut as Toho feared Japanese viewers would feel uncomfortable seeing American missiles striking Japanese ground in the aftermath of World War II. When American International Pictures released Mothra vs. Godzilla in the United States as Godzilla vs. The Thing, it restored this sequence.
  • American International Pictures reused footage of the Frontier Missile Cruisers for the 1965 comedy Dr. Goldfoot and The Bikini Machines. Shown briefly in the climax, the super-weapons stand in for regular naval ships called upon to destroy the titular mad scientist as he's located on a beach.
