Gamera the Giant Monster 3: Gamera vs. Barugon (大怪獣ガメラ3 大怪獣決闘ガメラ対バルゴンの巻,   Daikaijū Gamera Surī: Daikaijū Kettō Gamera tai Barugon no Maki, lit. "Gamera the Giant Monster 3 - Giant Monster Duel: Gamera vs. Barugon") is a 1995 manga adaptation of the 1966 film Gamera vs. Barugon created by Tsutomu Oyamada. The third installment in a series of adaptations based on the Showa Gamera films, it was published by Tokuma Shoten as part of their Shonen Captain Comics line.

Plot

Sometime after the Z-Plan Rocket is launched into space, it is struck by a meteor, releasing Gamera and allowing him to return to Earth. Meanwhile, Keisuke carries out an expedition in New Guinea in search of large opal previously discovered there. Upon finding it, one of the men, Onodera, steals it. Onodera later stores the opal in jewelry vault, where the heat from the vault's infrared sensors warm it, revealing the opal was actually an egg when the lizard monster Barugon hatches from it. Barugon rapidly grows in size and rampages through Japan until he is confronted by Gamera. During the battle, Gamera is frozen by Barugon and incapacitated. Keisuke and a local woman from New Guinea attempt to lure Barugon into the water with diamonds, as the locals in New Guinea had done in the past with other members of Barugon's species, but the plan fails. Gamera eventually thaws and confronts Barugon again. A fierce battle ensues which results in Gamera dragging Barugon into the ocean to his death.

Differences from the film

  • Though Gamera vs. Barugon was the second entry of the film series, the manga adaptation is presented as the third volume of the manga series.
  • In the film, Barugon's egg is incubated by a heat lamp. In the manga, the egg is placed in a vault and incubated by the vault's infrared sensors.
