"Gamesome" (まなつおにまつり,   Manatsu Oni Matsuri, lit. "The Midsummer Oni Festival") is the second episode of Godzilla Singular Point. Directed by Daisuke Tsukushi and Takuma Suzuki, it premiered at the Godzilla Singular Point Completion Announcement Event at TOHO CINEMAS Hibiya on March 19, 2021. It later aired on the Japanese Netflix on April 1 and on Japanese television on April 8.

Plot

As Haberu Kato drives Mei Kamino to Nigashio, they continue to discuss theoretical lifeforms. In town, Yun Arikawa covers the mouth of a crying child as the Pteronodon-like creature stares them down. Before it can strike, Goro Otaki commands its attention with a dramatic challenge from inside the cockpit of Jet Jaguar. Yun carries the child to safety as machine and monster do battle. The creature soon rips off Jet Jaguar's right arm, then throws it into a building and tears off the cockpit door. Jet Jaguar counters by grabbing its beak and pushing it backwards, but trips in the process, causing Goro to fall onto the street. He runs from the monster on foot until Jet Jaguar intervenes, now piloted by Yun via tablet with a series of preprogrammed dance moves. He reprograms it on the fly to act autonomously as the creature tries to remove the robot's head. It soon grows bored with its motionless opponent and turns its attention towards nearby citizens, smashing cars along the way. With the tablet rebooting, Yun gets its attention by tapping a metal railing with a wrench. Just before it can reach him, Goro rams it with his truck, followed by several strikes from Jet Jaguar. The monster suddenly retreats, flying high into the air. Mei and Haberu spot it as it suddenly thrashes around and crashes to the ground, dead. Yun realizes that its cry sounds familiar.

As paramedics take a protesting Goro to the hospital that evening, Haberu breaks through the crowd to talk with Yun. Mei snaps a picture of the corpse from a distance. In the following days, the monster and Otaki Factory capture the attention of the nation. Inside the factory, Yun and Haberu assess the heavy damage to Jet Jaguar. With Goro still in the hospital, they decide to prioritize a trio of yellow work robots. Receptionist Satomi Kanahara relays orders from Goro to focus on Jet Jaguar instead, as he is convinced a flock of the monsters will follow. She shows them a smaller version of the ancient painting Mei observed in the previous episode, and notes that the other monster it depicts, Godzilla, is a local legend said to rise out of a red sea and bring on the apocalypse. Haberu tries to be realistic: the parts to fix Jet Jaguar will not arrive for another week, and it would stand little chance against a flock. Listening to a recording of the monster's cry made by Jet Jaguar, Yun discovers that the radio waves it emitted match the ones they picked up at the mansion. The monster was also drawn to radio waves, as evidenced by the neon sign it targetted in Nigashio. He hopes to produce a signal that can attract them. At Misakioku Radio Observatory, Shunya Sato begins searching the archives for information on the dinosaur-like bones, which according to Tsunetomo Yamamoto have rested in the basement since well before his time as director. Pelops II encourages Mei to publish her notes about transdimensional flying creatures, even offering to organize them for her.

More monsters soon turn up dead around Japan. Analysis of them reveals that they have no stomachs, lack the homeobox gene found in every known multicellular organism, and contain the radioactive element radon. They are named "Rodan" by an obsessed public; there are soon pastries, t-shirts, and plush toys cashing in on the craze. Pelops II uploads Mei's revised paper online, where it attracts the attention of Professor Li Guiying. She sets up a meeting with Mei in Tokyo. Viewing microfilm, Shunya and Yamamoto find a picture of a bearded man named Michiyuki Ashihara, Misakioku's founder. Shunya contacts a bureaucrat for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yukie Kanoko, who asks for a report on the skeleton and the alarm at the observatory. On the train to Tokyo, Mei learns that Li is a computational chemistry expert who works for a company called SHIVA.consortium. At Otaki Factory, Yun and Haberu complete work on the Gyro Canopy Tandem 2 - Haberu's motorcycle equipped with antennae to attract Rodan - and Goro returns. Their timing is fortunate: two fishermen nearby watch hundreds of Rodan fly out of a red patch of sea.
