Template:Infobox IDW Monster Island is the eighth issue of Godzilla: Rulers of Earth. It was released on January 29, 2014.

Description

"The biggest monster fight to grace the comic book page hits in this climactic issue! Lucy and Woods converge on the site of an epic monster brawl as the aliens launch a last ditch effort to rule the Earth!"

Plot

As Jet Jaguar continues ripping the Cryog ship apart, Steven Woods and Chavez manage to activate the Ice Box they brought along with them and uses it to freeze one of the aliens solid. They decide to follow the Cryogs through the exit as their leader Rhizon orders for the strike team to kill the humans and for Orga to be jettisoned before Jet Jaguar completely destroys the ship. As Woods and Chaves escape, they encounter Jet Jaguar and the Millennian UFO before they come under fire by the Cryog strike team, who destroy the Ice Box. However, Woods kicks the Ice Box at the Cryogs as it detonates, freezing the strike team solid. Jet Jaguar shrinks down to his human size to interact with the soldiers. Woods introduces himself and asks the robot if he can understand them. Jet Jaguar gives them a thumbs up and beats one of the frozen Cryogs into dust. Woods tells the robot that they need to reach their command, and he responds by grabbing both soldiers and flying off with them in tow.

Meanwhile, Rhizon is told that the humans had escaped and that Orga's shuttle will be launched soon. He orders for his subordinates do it before they land the ship as they arrive on an uncharted island somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Rhizon contacts the the Devonian King and asks where their facility is, as the island is a "wasteland". The Devonian King responds that they're at the correct island and snarks that they've had trouble again. Rhizon tells him that his tone is unneeded and demands to know where they are. The Devonian simply replies that they're a "safe distance away" and that they're "waiting". The tentacled alien taunts him and states that the Devonian dares to play games with them. The Devonian King snaps and chastises the Cryog for not seeing their mistakes and for considering the underwater race to be simple, an easily controlled and dwindling army that's hobbled, unable to fight for themselves, and in need of allies to take over the planet. He states that it's the Cyrogs are the truly weak ones between the two races, explaining that they offered their technology in exchange for the Devonian's knowledge of Earth's monsters and their bio-engineering abilities, and that they knew that the Cyrogs would turn on them after they took control of the planet. But now, the Cyrogs are weakened, low in numbers, and have no defenses left. The Devonian leader states that the Cryogs have "shown their cards" and that there's nothing they have left to threaten their former allies with nor to help them survive. The Devonians will kill the Earth's monsters and humanity, but they'll destroy the Cryogs first. As Rhizon orders them to retreat, the Devonian tells them that they have nothing to protect them from the underwater race's latest creation: Biollante.

Biollante comes up from the ground and grabs the craft with her tendrils. Rhizon orders for Orga's pod to be launched despite the creature not being fully healed as Godzilla arrives onshore. The Millennian UFO is launched and escapes as Godzilla fires his atomic breath at Biollante's tendrils, causing her to drop the ship as it crashes and explodes on the island, killing almost everyone on board. Meanwhile, Jet Jaguar takes the two soldiers to a nearby aircraft carrier before Woods tells the captain that he needs to get on a secure line. When asked about the robot, he merely replies that "he's with us" as the Millennian UFO flies off into space. As Jet Jaguar falls to his knees, the captain tells his men to get the robot below deck. When the captain asks Woods what happened back there, the soldier replies that he doesn't know, but he thinks they "ruined someone's party". Back on the island, Godzilla emerges from the wreckage as he steps on Rhizon, seemingly killing him. He's suddenly surrounded by Biollante's tendrils as they wrap around and bite down on his neck before her full body emerges from underground. Biollante lifts Godzilla up and slams him down before tossing him away. Her tendrils bite down on the back of Godzilla's neck and the King of Monsters retaliates with a nuclear pulse, destroying them. Godzilla roars at Biollante only for the larger monster to slam Godzilla into the side of the island's volcano. She pulls Godzilla back towards her and fires her corrosive sap at him. Godzilla retaliates with a blast of his atomic breath before firing at the island's volcano, causing it to erupt. The lava flow that follows burns Biollante alive as Godzilla finishes her off by blasting at the plant monster's chest, engulfing her in flames.

As Godzilla leaves the island, Woods contacts Professor Allison. When Allison asks if he's missing the show, Woods responds by saying that the drone caught the end of the battle and it looked like another new monster, promising that the footage will be ready for the professor when he arrives. He tells Allison that Yumi built "one hell of a robot" and that he doesn't know how he'll pay Jet Jaguar back, stating that he's not convinced he dumped Godzilla into the ocean that close to the island by accident. Allison tells Woods that he can thank Yumi in person and that she'll have a myriad of questions for him once she arrives. He also reports that they got Lucy Casprell and her megazoological team out of China after the battle between Rodan, Varan, and Gaira. Woods tells Allison that he'll try and get some rest as the professor replies that he's glad Woods and Chavez are okay and that they'll investigate the island as soon as the fleet joins up with them. Woods jokes that given the burning state of the island, what's left of the Cryogs could be scattered across the globe in weeks. Meanwhile, As Godzilla leaves the island, the Devonian King orders for their monsters to be sent out into battle. As the megazoology group get on a military helicopter, Lucy tells Dr. Kenji Ando that she finished her report on their findings in China and asks if she'll have to testify about them. Ando tells her that she might do so someday, but they're currently in the middle of an important event as Godzilla's in the area and there's talk of a "Monster Island". When Lucy asks if Monster Island was a government facility, Ando tells her that this is different: This is a chain of uncharted islands and they're tagging along with the military to identify the new monster. Suddenly, the water rises as three monsters emerge from the ocean depths: Titanosaurus, Manda and Gezora.
