"Godzilla" is a song performed by the rock and metal band Blue Öyster Cult in 1977, written in homage to the Godzilla series. Written by the band's lead guitarist and vocalist Buck Dharma, when performed live the song would bring on stage a Godzilla dummy and have the drummer wearing a mask of the kaiju during his solo. A cover of the song composed by Bear McCreary and performed by System of a Down's Serj Tankian was included in the soundtrack for the 2019 film Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Brendon Small and Gene Hoglan of the band Dethklok from the Adult Swim animated series Metalocalypse also contributed to this cover.

Lyrics

With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He pulls the spitting high tension wires down

Helpless people on a subway train
Scream bug-eyed as he looks in on them

He picks up a bus and he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings toward the center of town

Oh no, they say he's got to go
Go go Godzilla, yeah
Oh no, there goes Tokyo
Go go Godzilla, yeah

Oh no, they say he's got to go
Go go Godzilla, yeah
Oh no, there goes Tokyo
Go go Godzilla, yeah

Godzilla, Godzilla, Godzilla, Godzilla, Godzilla, Godzilla, Godzilla, Godzilla...

Oh no, they say he's got to go
Go go Godzilla, yeah
Oh no, there goes Tokyo
Go go Godzilla, yeah

History shows again and again
How nature points out the folly of man
Godzilla!

History shows again and again
How nature points out the folly of man
Godzilla!

History shows again and again
How nature points out the folly of man
Godzilla!

History shows again and again
How nature points out the folly of man
Godzilla!!
