Godzilla vs. Giant Monster Varan (ゴジラ対大怪獣バラン Gojira tai Daikaijū Baran) is an early proposal for the seventh Heisei Godzilla film. The first known proposal for the final Heisei film, this story revived the tri-phibian monster Varan as Godzilla's opponent.
Plot
The giant monster Varan, the harbinger of the apocalypse, appears to destroy the world in the year 1999. Godzilla and his adopted son LittleGodzilla join forces to defeat Varan. As they return to the sea, the year 2000 begins.
History
One of the earliest known proposals for the final Heisei Godzilla film, Godzilla vs. Giant Monster Varan was to revive Varan, last used on-screen in 1968's Destroy All Monsters, as the main antagonist.[1] Ultimately the idea was discarded in favor of Godzilla vs. Godzilla, though elements from this story resurfaced in a later proposal, Godzilla vs. Bagan.[2]
