An untitled proposal for the 25th Godzilla film, commonly known by the name Godzilla vs. Kamacuras, was considered by director Shusuke Kaneko.[1] Kaneko's first idea for his Godzilla film, the proposal would be discarded in favor of Godzilla vs. M, followed by Godzilla X Varan, Baragon and Anguirus: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack before finally leading to Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack.

Plot

Godzilla battles the giant mantis kaiju Kamacuras.[1]

History

After his work on the film Pyrokinesis and his previous success with the Heisei Gamera trilogy, Shusuke Kaneko was hired by Toho to direct the 25th Japanese Godzilla film. Kaneko initially planned for Godzilla to battle the giant mantis kaiju Kamacuras from Son of Godzilla, not seen since 1969's All Monsters Attack.[1] However, the idea was soon discarded, possibly due to the insect kaiju Meganulon and Megaguirus already being featured in 2000's Godzilla vs. Megaguirus. Kaneko's next proposal pitted Godzilla against a mutated astronaut, but this too eventually gave way for the Guardian Monsters concept introduced in Godzilla X Varan, Baragon and Anguirus: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. Ultimately, the project became Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, the highest-grossing entry in the Millennium series of Godzilla films. Kamacuras would not return in a film until Godzilla's 50th anniversary film, Godzilla: Final Wars, in 2004.
