Hellhawks are winged creatures who appear in the 2021 Legendary Pictures film Godzilla vs. Kong. Denizens of Kong's temple in the Hollow Earth, they attacked him and a Monarch-Apex Cybernetics expedition after tremors caused by Godzilla's atomic breath agitated them.

Name

During the production of Godzilla vs. Kong, the Hellhawks were called Yoshuma.[1][3] Their final name was revealed on the packaging of a Playmates mini-figure.[4]

Design

Hellhawks resemble a cross between a bat and various species of predatory birds. Predominantly a dull yellow, Hellhawks have a ridge of raised spines running down their back, avian heads with hooked beaks, and orange-colored eyes.

Godzilla vs. Kong

When King Kong and a Monarch-Apex Cybernetics expedition entered a vast temple in the Hollow Earth dedicated to the great ape's kind, a flock of Hellhawks roosting in the ceiling took notice of them. After finding an axe that had belonged to his kind, Kong used the weapon to tap into a power source in the temple and charge it. Godzilla, arriving at Hong Kong, sensed this and fired his atomic ray into the ground towards the temple in an effort to breach the Hollow Earth. Agitated by the tremors, the Hellhawks became aggressive, then descended and attacked everything in sight. They merely irritated the massive Kong, but began to pick off Apex's guards. Two Hellhawks blocked Nathan Lind, Ilene Andrews, and Jia from reaching an HEAV to escape. One flew away with a guard, while the other turned its attention to the trio. Unarmed, Lind could only throw a rock at its head, angering it. The beast flew at him, talons raised, only to be knocked back as Godzilla's ray breached the temple. The rest of the Hellhawks fled.

Abilities

The Hellhawks are swift fliers, targeting the guards of Apex with their beaks and talons.
