Jason Ford is a supporting character in IDW Publishing's 2013-2015 comic series Godzilla: Rulers of Earth. Originally a member of Dr. Kenji Ando's Kaiju Watchers, Ford went on to become a member of the Monster Islands Research Team alongside Lucy Casprell and Kristina Sumres.

Personality

Jason Ford is a kind-hearted man with a passion for filming and documenting the planet's kaiju. As a member of the Monster Islands Research Team, he is shown to be quite protective of his fellow researchers Lucy Casprell and Kristina Sumres.

History

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #2

A Megazoologist with a fondness for cameras, Jason Ford was among many fellow researchers selected to be a part of Dr. Kenji Ando's own kaiju investigation team, along with Jeremy, Kristina Sumres, Shawn Lelonzo, Kyle Fellows, Shannon Nunez, and Marcia Marshall. After Zilla and Godzilla's battle in Honolulu, Hawaii, Ford met Dr. Ando's newest recruit, Lucy Casprell.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #4

Ford joined the kaiju investigation team as they ventured to Beijing, China to look into reports of a new kaiju in the area. The team watched footage of Godzilla battling Destoroyah alongside Mothra and her larvae while waiting in the airport. After being cleared to leave the airport, the group flew out to the Huanren Reservoir, where they saw the arrival of a new kaiju - Varan, who was not the monster they were called to investigate.

While running from Varan, Ford managed to save several members of the team by pushing them out of Varan's way while the Chinese military engaged the beast. Soon after, the group were evacuated from the area and ushered into a secret military base. After Casprell, who had been knocked into a different part of the facility in the chaos, was reunited with the team, Ford inspected her injured arm and assured her that she had not broken anything. Just then, Varan and Rodan's battle began destroying the base, prompting Ford and the team to flee, just barely escaping with their lives. Ultimately, Ford found a map that allowed the team to safely return to the airport.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #10

During a meeting that Drs. Ando, Allison, and Nagata held with world leaders aboard the USS Simon, Ford photographed the conference as they discussed plans to convert a recently discovered island chain into a containment site for the kaiju - the Monster Islands. Ford later joined remaining members of Dr. Ando's team as they surveyed the islands while Casprell departed to assist the Counter-Kaiju Reaction Forces with a mission in Australia.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #11

Ford, Casprell, and Sumres were hanging out on the deck of the USS Simon when the aircraft carrier suddenly came under attack by a horde of Juvenile Destoroyah, which, unbeknownst to the team, had been sent by the Devonians.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #12

CKR members Steven Woods and Chavez attempted to lead Ford and his friends below deck, though they remained close by to offer more assistance to the CKR soldiers battling the Destoroyahs, with Ford dragging injured soldiers below deck to safety. Following the destruction of the Devonian kingdom and the loss of Godzilla with it, Ford met with Dr. Ando and accepted the professor's proposal to stay on the islands and help the CKR establish a base there before later offering further assistance with ongoing search-and-rescue efforts after Destoroyah's attack.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #13

In the years following the defeat of the Devonians, Ford joined the Counter-Kaiju Reaction Forces and became a full-time resident of the islands as a member of the Monster Islands Research Team alongside Casprell and Sumres. One of Ford's jobs involved working on the islands' surveillance cameras.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #14

After Casprell and Chavez discovered a seemingly-deceased Anguirus in the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia, an investigative team was put together to determine what had happened to the fallen monster, which included Ford alongside Chavez, Casprell, and Sumres. Upon arrival, Ford filmed Anguirus's body until the giant awoke, whereupon Ford reviewed his footage and noticed something strange on the monster's underbelly. As the CKR's Mechagodzilla arrived to restrain the kaiju, Ford shared his find with Chavez and soon discovered the anomaly to be mysterious missiles imbedded within Anguirus' underside, which deeply concerned Chavez. Unbeknownst to the team, the perpetrators of the attack on Anguirus were the Cryog aliens, who utilized one of their own Mechagodzilla units in the fight.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #15

Chavez informed Ford and the team that they were to transport Anguirus to a new facility in Russia as opposed to the Monster Islands. Soon after, the helicopter escort accompanying Mechagodzilla and Anguirus was ambushed by the Cryogs' Mechagodzillas, which downed the helicopter carrying Ford and his allies alongside the rest of the fleet.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #16

Ford, Casprell, Sumres, and Chavez survived the assault and escaped the wreckage relatively unscathed. As they prepared to tend to other survivors, the group was suddenly surrounded by the Spetsnaz. Soon after, Ford and his friends heard the roar of Godzilla, finally alerting them to his return. Following Godzilla's victory against the Cryog forces, Ford helped remaining CKR personnel establish temporary shelters while waiting for the arrival of the recovery team sent by Steven Woods.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #17

Just prior to being extracted, Ford witnessed Casprell come into contact with two unconscious women recently rescued from the facility that caused her to have a mysterious psychic vision, though she ultimately recovered. Weeks later, Ford, Casprell, and Sumres traveled to Brazil to investigate reports of kaiju eggs, with Ford learning that the eggs had already been transported to São Paulo ahead of their arrival. As Ford spoke with locals about the eggs and learned that they had been recovered from a mining site, the eggs began to hatch.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #18

While the eggs were hatching, Casprell experienced another psychic episode that momentarily incapacitated her, leaving her vulnerable to the dangerous Meganulon that were emerging from the eggs and attacking civilians. Without wasting any time, Ford passed his camera over to Sumres and picked Casprell up to carry her away from the danger. As Ford and Sumres fled, the latter dropped the camera, and despite Ford's insistence that she abandon it, the two were cornered by one of the insect monsters as Sumres attempted to retrieve the camera. However, a recovered Casprell saved them, at which point the trio witnessed the arrival of Godzilla in the midst of a battle with a new monster Casprell later identified as Ebirah. As Godzilla and Ebirah made landfall, Ford, Casprell, and Sumres desperately attempted to flee the mayhem before Ford located and borrowed a truck to transport them to safety. Along the way, Ford lamented the loss of his camera shortly before the team witnessed the arrival of yet another new kaiju, Megaguirus. Once the team was a safe distance away from the battle, Casprell shared information she had learned from the Shobijin years prior about how the kaiju would rise up to protect the planet when threatened, prompting her to conclude that the planet was in imminent danger yet again. After Ford flagged down a convoy of military personnel, he established contact with Woods and informed him of the situation while Megaguirus carried Godzilla out of the city. The trio later returned to the city to provide more aid to the survivors, while Ford promised Woods that he would continue to look after the two women.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #21

After Woods had the team extracted from Brazil, he called Ford to inform him of the loss of the Monster Islands to alien monsters called the Trilopods before requesting to speak to Casprell. Woods also had their flight rerouted to Japan to regroup at Dr. Ando's lab for a new mission.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #22

Just as the team arrived at Dr. Ando’s lab, they witnessed a live news report showing the arrival of the colossal Trilopod hive in Los Angeles. They then saw a pack of Trilopods attack the incapacitated Godzilla and use his DNA to transform into Godzilla-Trilopod hybrids.

Having been made aware of the existence of the ancient guardian monster King Caesar, Ford accompanied his team to Okinawa to awaken the legendary beast at the request of the Shobijin, who also joined the expedition and believed King Caesar would help Godzilla defend the planet against the invading Trilopods. However, after a CKR team located and freed King Caesar from a side of a cliff, the monster remained dormant, discouraging Casprell. Just as Ford and Sumres tried to comfort her, Battra arrived on the scene, having tracked down the Shobijin at the behest of Minette and Mallory - the psychic twins who had previously affected Casprell. Battra was quick to eliminate the CKR team while Minette and Mallory cornered Ford, Casprell, Sumres, and the Shobijin. As Battra prepared to kill them, the awakened King Caesar arrived and stopped the divine moth, allowing them to flee by scaling the cliff. During their escape attempt, a Trilopod hunting pod landed nearby, though King Caesar was again able to protect the team from the Trilopods released from it. Despite their best efforts to escape, Minette and Mallory cornered the group once more and incapacitated Ford by striking his head with a rock. After Battra abruptly abandoned the twins, however, Casprell and Sumres fought back and freed themselves before helping Ford to his feet. Just as Ford recovered, King Caesar took the group into his hand, though the Shobijin assured the team that they could trust him. With the team safe, King Caesar killed Minette and Mallory before allowing the Trilopods to abduct him so that they would be transported to the Trilopod hive where they were needed.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #25

Arriving in Los Angeles, the Trilopod hunting pod carrying the group and King Caesar reconvened with the hive, whereupon King Caesar freed the team from the pod and killed remaining Trilopods. Ford noticed that King Caesar then began freeing other captive kaiju trapped within the hive while Casprell called Woods, who quickly launched a rescue mission to save the team from the hive. After King Caesar broke all of the kaiju out of the hive in an attempt to help Godzilla fight the Trilopod army, Woods and Chavez had their opening into the hive and located Ford, Casprell, Sumres, and the Shobijin. While evacuating, the Cryog released Magita from the hive, which appeared to crush Woods as the others managed to escape. While the kaiju fought nearby, Ford and his team helped Chavez search the rubble for Woods, eventually finding that he had been critically injured in the chaos. The group stayed with Woods in his final moments until he succumbed to his injuries after the last of the Trilopods and Magita had been defeated, at which point Ford and his surviving allies witnessed the weary Godzilla vanish into the ocean.

In the aftermath, Ford attended Woods' funeral to pay his respects.
