The Kawasaki CH-47J Chinook is a Japanese heavy-lift transport helicopter manufactured and licensed by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, based on the American-built Boeing CH-47 Chinook. It is first featured in the 1993 Godzilla film, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II. The original American version, the Boeing CH-47 Chinook, appears in several kaiju films as well.
History
Heisei series
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II
After G-Force developed a plan codenamed "G-Crusher" that involved luring Godzilla to the Ogasawara Islands and killing him with Mechagodzilla there, it was decided to use the infant Godzillasaurus, BabyGodzilla, as bait. Baby was placed in a container, accompanied by his surrogate mother Azusa Gojo, which was airlifted by a Kawasaki CH-47J Chinook. However, en route to the Ogasawara Islands, the chopper was intercepted by Fire Rodan, intent on recovering Baby Godzilla. Rodan destroyed the helicopter and grabbed the container before touching down in the city to try and break it open.
Gamera 2: Attack of the Legion
When a Legion Flower was discovered in downtown Sendai, the JSDF ordered all citizens to evacuate before the flower could seed and level the city. The JSDF sent several Kawasaki CH-47J Chinooks to the Sendai airfield to carry passengers away. Among the evacuating civilians were Asagi Kusanagi, her friend, and Dr. Midori Honami. The three of them boarded a chopper, but before it could leave the Mother Legion erupted from underground. Thankfully, Gamera arrived just in time to intercept Legion. As the two monsters battled, the ground shook below them, preventing the last chopper from being able to take off. Determined to protect Asagi, Gamera held Legion back as the monster speared into his shell with her legs. Finally, the chopper was able to take off, leaving Gamera to contend with Legion and the flower alone.
