She is dedicated to solving the mystery of Goro Maki and stopping Godzilla before the United States is forced to drop a nuclear weapon on her grandmother's homeland.

Shin Godzilla
After Godzilla arrived on shore for the first time, the United States sent Patterson to Japan to uncover the whereabouts of Goro Maki. Working with Rando Yaguchi, she was able to recover an envelop containing Maki's analysis of Godzilla's chemical make-up. In exchange, she delivered to the team the Department of Energy's foreknowledge of Godzilla and the name given to him by Goro Maki.
