After Godzilla arrived onshore for the first time, the United States sent Patterson to Japan to uncover the whereabouts of Goro Maki. Working with Rando Yaguchi, she was able to recover an envelop containing Maki's analysis of Godzilla's chemical make-up. In exchange, she delivered to the team the Department of Energy's foreknowledge of Godzilla and the name given to him by Goro Maki. When Godzilla resurfaced, she and the rest of the American delegation were forced to retreat from Tokyo. Initially she was able to negotiate a research partnership between Japan and the United States. However, when President Ross prepared to drop a nuclear weapon on Godzilla, she decides to see Japan's Operation Yashiori plan through and stay behind, securing American drones for use in the operation. After Godzilla was successfully frozen, she informed Yaguchi that if Godzilla reawakens, the countdown will continue.
