Concept history King BalganKing Caesar

King Balgan (キングバルガン,   Kingu Barugan), alternatively referred to as King Vulcan (キングバルカン,   Kingu Barukan), is an unused kaiju from the unmade 1973 Godzilla film, Showdown in Zanpamisaki: Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla.[2] The creature acted as a predecessor to King Caesar, who appeared in the finished Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla.

Design

Although no concept art for the monster is known to exist, King Balgan is described as having a body which glows a bronze color, golden scales, and dog-like ears which can pin back or perk up.[1]

History

Showdown in Zanpamisaki: Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla

King Balgan would have participated in a final battle against Mechagodzilla and Gigan, alongside Godzilla and Anguirus. It would have at one point absorbed the "space energy" of Mechagodzilla through its right eye and fired it back from its left eye.[1]

Abilities

  • King Balgan would have been able to fire a stream of golden lava from its mouth.[1]
  • King Balgan would have possessed gold protective scales on its body, which could rebound the attacks of its opponents.[2]
  • Similar to King Caesar, King Balgan would have had the ability to absorb enemy laser fire through its right eye and fire it back from its left.[2]
