King Kong Skull Island was an unproduced television series developed by MarVista Entertainment and IM Global Television. It was based on DeVito ArtWorks' King Kong of Skull Island property, rather than the similarly-titled 2017 film Kong: Skull Island. Jonathan Penner and Stacy Title were announced as writers and executive producers for the series, with Dannie Festa also executive producing.[1] It would have been the first live-action King Kong television show.

Plot

Years after King Kong met his end atop the Empire State Building, a group of explorers becomes stranded on Skull Island and encounters his family.[2]

A Deadline article announcing the series described the cast as "a female-led, multicultural ensemble."[1]

Development

Development of King Kong Skull Island was first reported by Deadline on April 18, 2017. The report clarified that the series was unrelated to the similarly-titled film Kong: Skull Island, released only a month prior, and instead was based on DeVito ArtWorks' King Kong of Skull Island media property. Jonathan Penner and Stacy Title were announced as the show's writers, and would also serve as executive producers alongside Dannie Festa.[1]

FHM published an exclusive preview for the series on October 31, which revealed that the series would take place after Kong's death in New York City, and follow a group of explorers who become stranded on Skull Island and meet his family.[2] This was the final news about the series, and it was not mentioned again until August 23, 2022, when Dealine reported development on a new series based on King Kong of Skull Island from a different creative team. In this report, Deadline confirmed that King Kong Skull Island "did not come to fruition."[3]
