This page is a list of minor monsters from Toho-licensed media. This is defined as any kaiju, kaijin, animals, or other beings whose roles have little overall relevance in the media they are featured in, and which are generally not trademarked. As a result, this page doesn't include characters such as Meganulon or Meganula, Fairy Mothra, Garugaru, Barem, and Ghogo, who are all trademarked.

(トリロバイト,   Torirobaito)

Trilobite.jpg
Godzilla (1954)
Species: Prehistoric Arthropod • Length: 1 millimeter to 72 centimeters • Weight: 4.5 kilograms
Main article: Trilobite.
In Godzilla, a living trilobite was discovered by Dr. Kyohei Yamane in one of Godzilla's footprints on Odo Island. Yamane concluded from the creature's presence in the footprint along with the age of the sediment found with it that Godzilla must have been living in a deep underwater pocket since the Jurassic before being disturbed by H-bomb testing. In Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, Dr. Tokumitsu Yuhara created a cybernetic "Mecha-Trilobite." This technology would lay the groundwork for the construction of Kiryu using the original Godzilla's skeleton.

  • The Maneater's Japanese name, Hitokui Shokubutsu, literally translates to "man-eating plant," referencing how it grabbed Ichiro Miki and tried to eat him. A 2008 Cast ornament of the creature gives it the full name Man-Eating Plant of Dream Monster Island (夢の怪獣島の人食い植物,   Yume no Kaijū-tō no Hitokui Shokubutsu).

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993)
History

Shipniocus is a prehistoric fernaceous plant discovered adhering to the eggs of both BabyGodzilla and Rodan on Adonoa Island. It emits a mysterious telepathic energy which when interpreted by psychics and fed into a recording produces a melody. Whenever Baby or Rodan heard this melody, they received a large intake of power. In the case of Rodan, the energy from this melody was sufficient to revive him following his battle with Godzilla and transform him into Fire Rodan.

History

The brainchild of Kazuma Aoki, the Pteranodon Robot was a flying vehicle modeled after the Pteranodons he adored so much. Aoki brought the completed robot to the enclosure where BabyGodzilla was being held by the United Nations Godzilla Countermeasures Center and cared for by Azusa Gojo. Aoki let Azusa ride on the robot with him, but as they passed over Baby's enclosure the robot sputtered and suddenly dropped out of the sky, crashing in the enclosure. Both Aoki and Azusa were unhurt, though the Pteranodon Robot was damaged. Aoki later repaired the Pteranodon Robot and used it to exit the Garuda during the battle between Godzilla and Super Mechagodzilla.

Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (2002)
History
Main article: Trilobite#Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla.

By 1999, scientist Tokumitsu Yuhara had successfully created a cybernetic Trilobite, which was dubbed Mecha-Trilobite (メカトリロバイト,   Mekatorirobaito). Using living nerves and tissue from Horseshoe crabs along with robotic components and special "DNA computers," Yuhara perfectly replicated the extinct arthropod, which moved and behaved as if it were alive. Yuhara intended to use this method to preserve extinct and endangered species. When the Japanese government learned of Yuhara's work, it recruited him to use his method to cybernetically revive the original Godzilla as a battle machine dubbed Kiryu, so it could fight the current Godzilla.

Giant Bat
(大コウモリ,   Ōkōmori)[8]

Space Amoeba - Sergio Island bat.png
Height: 80 centimeters[8]Weight: 1800 grams[8]
History

A flock of bats caused Gezora, a monster created by the malevolent Space Amoeba, to break off his attack on a Sergio Island village. After Rico told the others about this incident, Dr. Miya concluded that ultrasonic waves must be the key to defeating the alien monsters. While searching for bats, Kudo and Ayako were chased by another Space Amoeba-created monster, a giant turtle called Kamoebas. They discovered a cave housing the flying mammals. The bats' sonar repeled the monster, proving Dr. Miya's theory. The next day, the alien directed Obata to light the entrance of a cave on fire in an attempt to kill the bats. He revealed his alien possession to the others, but an emotional appeal by Ayako allowed his human side to resurface long enough to let the bats escape. The aliens took control once again, summoning Kamoebas and a second Ganimes to the island to finally destroy the humans. The bats swarmed around the two monsters, disrupting the extraterrestrial influence. No longer controlled by the aliens, the monsters came to blows.

Nostradamus - Giant Slugs 01.png
Height: 40 centimeters[10]Weight: 200 grams[10]
History

The Giant Slugs were created after the human race's struggle for survival led them to the Gibberellin, a plant which triples the growth rate of an average food harvest and the Earth's pollution after corporations disobeyed the Japanese government's efforts to take care of the environment at all costs. Instead of complying to the agreement, corporations merely developed a technique to mask the noxious fumes being poured into the sky. So, after the excessive amounts of pollution and the Gibberellin's hormones, the Earth's slugs were mutated into the Giant Slugs. Alas, the Japanese government wasted no time in eradicating the over-sized mollusks, sending flamethrower-equipped soldiers to take care of the creatures. Thanks to the Self Defense Force, every last one of the Giant Slugs were burned alive.

History

A United Nations investigation team goes missing after being dispatched to New Guinea after a series of freak climate changes occurring across the globe. A second party is sent out to gather information on the incident and to rescue the first party. It is revealed that atomic dust clouds are polluting the interior of New Guinea. The United Nations team is forced to don anti-radiation suits to continue venturing through New Guinea. As they continue their journey, the second party realizes that the local wildlife has been irradiated by the dust clouds. Some of those creatures were the Giant Bats. The Giant Bats assaulted the United Nations team, and the members of the team were forced to duck and cover to prevent the blows from the Giant Bats. Eventually, the group pulled out pistols and shot the bats down, and continued with their journey.

History
Main article: Dragon.

While a crew of sailors was sailing aboard their boat in the ocean, they witnessed the Dragon surface near their boat. Their first reaction was to shoot the Dragon with harpoons, landing only a few hits. The Dragon then swam at full speed toward the ship, destroying it and killing all aboard.

  • In addition to a prop of the monster's entire body, special effects director Teruyoshi Nakano also constructed a large animatronic of the Dragon's neck.
  • A popular rumor is that the Dragon prop was originally constructed for the unmade Toho and Hammer collaboration film Nessie, and reused by Teruyoshi Nakano for Princess from the Moon. However, given that Nessie was cancelled nearly a decade before Princess from the Moon was produced, and that no confirmation of this is made in any known official books, this rumor is likely false.
Dinosaurs
(恐竜,   Kyōryū)[15]

Rebirth of Mothra III (1998)
History

Shortly after Rainbow Mothra traveled back to the Cretaceous period, a Pteranodon flew past him, and a Tyrannosaurus rex pursued a herd of Triceratops nearby. As it bit into a straggler's neck, Cretaceous King Ghidorah seized it in his central head. Before the T-Rex could be devoured and abduct the Triceratops, Rainbow Mothra made his presence known with a volley of Cross Heat Rainbow Lasers, causing the space monster to drop the screaming dinosaur.

After Rainbow Mothra severed part of Cretaceous King Ghidorah's tail with another Cross Heat Rainbow Laser, a Triceratops and a Tyrannosaurus observed the appendage as it burrowed underground and stared at each other in concern.

Macro seahorse
The Giant Seahorses first sighted by the Calico
Godzilla episode 23,
"The Macro-Beasts"
As their name suggests, these are seahorses mutated to gigantic proportions and are mostly accurate to their real-life counterparts, with segmented bony armor covered with an outer skin, an upright posture, equine features, and a curled prehensile tail. The only slight exception would be that of elongated crown-like spines or horns protruding from the back of their heads and necks, which seems uncommon for most species of Seahorse. The Giant Seahorses are lightly green colored with yellowish underbellies and wide yellowish eyes. Upon first seeing the Giant Seahorses, Pete comments on the Seahorses being 'the size of real horses', however by the climax of the episode, the Giant Seahorses have grown three-or-more-times that size, when compared to the Calico's Mini-Subs.
History

The Giant Seahorses were among several marine animals enlarged to giant size, thanks to recent volcanic eruptions and a mysterious underground substance emerging from Capaldi Island; a relatively young formation which itself was created by the aforementioned geological activity. The Giant Seahorses were the very first of the enlarged animals, dubbed Macro-Beasts, to be spotted by the crew of the Calico, as the creatures swam quite gracefully on-top of the ocean's surface.

Seemingly harmless creatures, compared to the more antagonistic Giant Manta Ray, the Giant Seahorses were still herded along with their fellow Macro-Beasts and collared into an isolated pool near Calpadi's shore, thanks to the Calico Mini-Subs piloted by Captain Majors and first-mate Brock, though one Giant Seahorse did try to attempt an escape before being rounded back up with the others. Once entrapped within said pool, a gigantic iceberg brought by Godzilla was used to change the water's temperature, as cold icy water reversed the combined growing effects of the mysterious substance and volcanically heated water on the Macro-Beasts, transforming the Giant Seahorses and the rest of their enlarged brethren back to their original sizes.

Abilities
  • The giant sea horses are extraordinary swimmers.
  • The mysterious purple substance that enlarges the Macro-Beasts is likely a direct reference to the titular subterranean chemical from H.G. Wells' novel The Food of the Gods and How It Came to Earth, which also enlarged any life-form which consumed it.
  • The Giant Seahorses are probably one of the least threatening creatures to appear in the whole of the Godzilla franchise, coming off more cute and simple-minded animals over anything else. However, their continuously increasing growth would have made them an ecological menace later down the line, as with all the other Macro-Beasts.
  • Not counting purely fanciful and comedic plays on the pun within the species' namesake, giant monsters based off on the otherwise benign and beloved seahorses are rather rare in fiction, with a scant example being Mega-Jappa from Ultraman Orb.
Macro jellyfish
Macro jellyfish
Godzilla episode 23,
"The Macro-Beasts"
History

The giant jellyfish was one of several marine animals enlarged to giant size, thanks to recent volcanic eruptions and a mysterious underground, gooey substance emerging from Capaldi Island; a relatively young formation which itself was created by the aforementioned geological activity. The combination of heated water and the edible substances resulted in the once normal jellyfish and its fellow sea creatures assuming such gigantic proportions, becoming the Macro-Beasts. It was the second Macro-Beast to be encountered by the visiting crew of the Calico, floating upon the ocean's surface.

  • The Giant Jellyfish is never seen again after its brief appearance, though it could be assumed that like the other Macro-Beasts, the jellyfish returned to its original state thanks to the actions of Godzilla and his allies on board the Calico.
  • Brock comments on the Giant Jellyfish being "the size of a whale," however when visually compared to the Calico itself in the episode, the Giant Jellyfish appears to be even bigger than Godzilla himself.
Macro crab

The giant crab was among several marine animals enlarged to giant size, thanks to recent volcanic eruptions and a mysterious underground substance emerging from Capaldi Island; a relatively young formation which itself was created by the aforementioned geological activity. The giant crab disabled the Calico crew's mini sub's radio and attempted to drag both Dr. Quinn and Brock into its cave. Luckily, Brock rescued them both by overheating the mini sub's engine, burning the giant crab's claw and allowing them to escape and return to the Calico.
Macro electric eel

Godzilla episode 23,
"The Macro-Beasts"
The giant eels were among several marine animals enlarged to giant size, thanks to recent volcanic eruptions and a mysterious underground substance emerging from Capaldi Island; a relatively young formation which itself was created by the aforementioned geological activity. A large pack giant electric eels attacked Majors and Brock, disabling their barriers and threatening to kill them. Majors called on Godzilla, who arrived just in time to frighten off the eels with his lasers, wrangling them into the cave.
Macro manta ray
Giant Manta Ray.png
Godzilla episode 23,
"The Macro-Beasts"
History

The giant manta ray was mutated from the extreme heat of a volcanic explosion in the ocean. When it noticed the Calico, it tried to attack, but Godzilla was summoned. The beast shot an energy bolt at Godzilla, an ineffective attack which he countered with a punch, sending it back to its reef.

After all the ocean creatures were put in the reef, the giant manta ray flew out of the water and started fighting Godzilla again. Godzilla squeezed it and threw it back to the reef. While it was sinking, Godzilla threw an iceberg at the reef which dropped the temperature and made all the animals their normal sizes again.

Abilities
  • The giant manta ray can fire a bolt of energy from its tail.
Macro fish and sealife
Giant tropical fish feeds on the mutagen
Godzilla episode 23,
"The Macro-Beasts"
History

The giant fish were among several marine animals enlarged to giant size, thanks to recent volcanic eruptions and a mysterious underground substance emerging from Capaldi Island; a relatively young formation which itself was created by the aforementioned geological activity. Giant blue fish, a giant sea turtle and a giant starfish are briefly seen by Dr. Quinn and Brock as they descend to uncover the cause of the Macro-Beasts. The giant tropical fish plays a vital role in the discovery of the Super-Food mutagen as it is witnessed increasing in size by Dr. Quinn and Brock. Other members of its species can be seen in the coral corral. The giant goldfish differed from the rest of the Macro-Beasts as it was found aboard the Calico, where Dr. Quinn fed it the Super-Food; it was quickly reverted to its normal size after being exposed to ice water. Giant white fish, tuna and barracuda are briefly seen as Dr. Quinn and Pete are relaying information from the Mini-Copter to Captain Major and Brock. A giant swordfish was seen along with giant sharks and macro squids as they were being corralled into the Coral Corral be Capt. Major and Brock. Giant red fish, yellow fish, tropical blue fish, sailfish and a sea turtle were seen in the final scene when they began to shrink.

They were then kept there in secret alongside the Thorny Devil, and Giant Armadillo, until the others escaped into the above-ground facility. They are the only two Mutations that are shown to not have escaped, although it is unknown if any other Mutations were kept on the facility.

Hideous and malformed mutations that inhabit the lowest levels, past the eightieth floor, of the otherwise idyllic future city of Harmony Cluster Nine. The origins of these nocturnal creatures are never mentioned, but they are considered a common vermin by the future inhabitants, who routinely drop firebombs into the lower levels to keep the mutants' numbers in check. When a time-traveling Godzilla is brought into Harmony Cluster Nine by the villain Elmer Mason, the ensuing chaos allows the mutants to ran rampant above-ground, violently attacking innocent citizens and Mason's pirate armies alike.

Ankylosaurus
Godzilla, King of the Monsters
History

A new species of Ankylosaurus discovered by Doctor Oniyama with the assistance of a version of himself who travelled through time, Ankylosaurus's fossilised skeleton was placed on display at a Dinosaur Expo. With the Expo in operation, the two Oniyamas used KIDS to fire a beam into the fossil to revive it, resulting in a living Ankylosaurus. Aware that Godzilla would come to protect Hideo Kaneko and his friends, who were at the Expo, the Oniyamas used KIDS to devolve Godzilla into Godzillasaurus, and the two ancient reptiles fought. With Ankylosaurus losing the fight, KIDS was used again to fire a syringe full of DNA into Ankylosaurus's body, causing it to rapidly grow into a full-size Anguirus.

Gallery
  • The Ankylosaurus roar is rendered as "Gyaaasu" (ギャアアス).
  • According to Doctor Oniyama, Ankylosaurus's species was a natural rival to that of Godzillasaurus.

Matango hives
GMoM-MatangoHive.png
Godzilla: Monster of Monsters! (1988) Massive hives of the Matango mushroom taller than Godzilla appear through the game. They shoot bullets at the player's monster while up to two spore monsters spawn from it, also shooting and attempting to swarm the player. Once the hive takes enough damage, the spores will stop spawning and the hive will start shooting bigger bullets in a diferent pattern until defeated. Though functionally the same, three types appear through the game:
  • On Earth, Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto, generic mushroom-shaped hives appear.
  • On Mars and Saturn, huge almost mountain-shaped hives appear.
  • On Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto, mushroom-shaped hives with a seemingly collapsed top appear.

Unnamed plant stage monsters
GMoM-Plants.png
Godzilla: Monster of Monsters! (1988) The jungle stages of Earth, Jupiter, Pluto, and Planet X are filled with plant-based monster in addition to the Xiliens' forces. Not counting the totem-like gun towers, mechanical weapons that appear elsewhere in the game, there's a total of six different plant enemy types:
  • Foliage cannons: small spheres atop wavy vines. It has what looks like an opening on the orb, and from it, the plant shoots at the player monster in an arc.
  • Thorn towers: asparagus-looking plant that moves up and down while shooting lasers vertically. The lasers are colored the same as the player character, and at higher levels, when Mothra's eye beams come in contact with the lasers, she is damaged.
  • Vine cannons: plants that are rooted on the ground and have some kind of flower coming out of them. From that flower they shoot spinning projectiles that slowly home in to the player monster.
  • Bio-blockades: strange prickly-looking bushes that go up and down from the ground. While they do appear on Earth, it is only in the background and they do not attack nor can they be hit.
  • Bio-cannons: large plants that have a big flower in the middle. They attack the exact same as the pole enemies, and like them, these plants cannot be walked through until defeated. Like the previous plant, it only appears as part of the background on Earth.
  • Airborne bombers: flying flowers that shower bullets down once the player gets close. This type of enemy does not appear on Earth.
