The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is an American family of single-seat multirole fighter aircraft with VTOL capabilities. The F-35 has been exported to a number of countries, including Britain and Japan. They have appeared in all three Godzilla films of the MonsterVerse, beginning in the 2014 Godzilla as part of the US Navy, and later in the 2019 film Godzilla: King of the Monsters as part of Monarch's inventory. Two of the craft also appeared in episode 3 of the 2021 series Godzilla Singular Point.

History

MonsterVerse

Godzilla (2014)

At least one F-35 of the US Navy was sent to Honolulu to track down a Russian submarine that had gone missing in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Hawaii; it was brought down by the male MUTO's electromagnetic pulses. Additional F-35s were later deployed in large numbers to San Francisco to battle against both MUTOs; large numbers of the aircraft were downed by electromagnetic pulses, crashing into the city or into San Francisco Bay.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

After Rodan broke free of his containment at Isla de Mara, A group of Monarch F-35s codenamed Gold Squadron was launched from the USS Argo in an attempt to distract him and lure him away from attacking citizens still evacuating the island's city. A squadron of U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornets assisted the F-35s in attacking Rodan, but as Rodan began to pursue the Argo, he proceeded to use his abilities to destroy all the jets as he gave chase, including the entirety of Gold Squadron.

Additional F-35s took part in the final battle between the Titans in Boston.

Godzilla vs. Kong

Three F-35s intercepted Godzilla in Pensacola, Florida, as he attacked an Apex Cybernetics facility. The first two planes launched missiles at him, while he smacked the third out of the sky. He quickly destroyed the others with two blasts of atomic breath, the second exploding near a crowd of civilians fleeing from Godzilla. Numerous F-35 Lightning II jets of the U.S. Navy were also caught in the crossfire between Godzilla and Kong's battle in the Tasman Sea, where they attempted to fire on Godzilla. However, Godzilla downed almost all of the aircraft, and destroyed many more that were parked when he climbed aboard the deck of an aircraft carrier to fight Kong hand-to-hand. During the fight, Kong picked up one of the jets with a pilot who had just climbed inside, before hurling it at Godzilla's head. The pilot managed to eject in time, and the impromptu missile did nothing to slow Godzilla's advance. Moments later, other jets spared him a point-blank blast of Godzilla's atomic breath with a barrage of missiles, distracting the Titan.

"Tigerish"

A pair of Japanese F-35s were deployed to intercept an unknown object flying high above the air. Upon arriving, the pilots discovered that the object was a Rodan, and soon observed a horde of the creatures flying below.
