Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris

After Gamera saved a pair of F-15s from the mutant Iris, the monsters engaged in a dogfight far above the typhoon raging below. Gamera, having already killed thousands in the Shibuya district of Tokyo when chasing a pair of Hyper Gyaos, was marked as enemy number one by the JSDF, who ordered a Patriot missile strike on him.

The launch platforms took aim before unleashing two Patriot missiles. The same F-15s Gamera saved earlier watched as both missiles hit him, temporary stunning him. Iris took advantage of this distraction to land in Kyoto as he continued his search for Ayana Hirasaka. Gamera, while slowed down, did not stop and instead recovered quickly to continue his battle with Iris while the JSDF could only watch and wait.

Capabilities

The MIM-104 Patriot is a missile launch system using several components—communications, command and control, radar surveillance, and missile guidance—to make its missile launches accurate and adjust on the fly to changing factors in the battlefield with constant updates. The main launcher itself and the fire control systems are all mounted on the back of a trailer.

The Patriot guided missile is capable of reaching mach speeds—depending on the variant, this can be Mach 3.5 or even Mach 5.5—and the missile uses a proximity fuze to detonate once a target is within the lethal blast radius. The warhead is a combination of high-explosive and fragmentation to destroy any enemy missiles or aircraft that are outside of the blast radius but still well within the range of the fragments to be torn up.

The missiles were powerful enough to stun Gamera, making him scream and plummet, temporary losing control. However, while the weaker Type 81 Surface-to-Air Missile were able to stun Gamera long enough that he fell to the ground during the events of Gamera the Guardian of the Universe, Gamera recovered mere moments after being hit by the Patriot missiles, indicating that he had grown considerably more durable and pain-resistant over the years. Furthermore, Gamera showed no external injuries from the missiles.
