Magic: The Gathering, often shortened to just Magic, is a collectible card game created by Richard Garfield and published by Wizards of the Coast in 1993. The first of its kind, its popularity has only grown, with an estimated 35 million players worldwide in 2018.[1] On April 2, 2020, Wizards of the Coast announced that their upcoming Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths set would feature characters from the Godzilla franchise. All are special versions of regular cards, whose names are printed beneath each kaiju's name. The English set will include 16 Godzilla Series Monster cards, with an additional three in the Japanese set.[2] It was released on April 17, 2020, in Asia and on May 15, 2020, in the rest of the world. In addition, Godzilla was featured in a Secret Lair Drop Series, a set of five of the six basic land types and a code for a digital Godzilla card sleeve on Magic: The Gathering Arena. The Godzilla Lands were only available for a 24-hour period starting on May 7 at 9 PM Pacific Time.[3]
