One of the two largest and oldest still-operating American comic book publishers alongside DC Comics, Marvel's vast library of characters includes the likes of Spider-Man, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men, and many more. Most of its characters inhabit a fictional shared universe known as the Marvel Universe, and several have been adapted to other media such as television and film, including the highly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe film and TV franchise. Since 2009, Marvel has been owned by The Walt Disney Company after it acquired its parent company, Marvel Entertainment. |
