All monsters, and Godzilla, are called monsters because it cannot be defeated by people. To defeat what has surpassed human intellect is no longer within the category of human achievement. From the moment you decided that you'd defeat Godzilla, you were aspiring to become something that is no longer human, Haruo!

— Galu-gu tries to convince Haruo Sakaki to give up his humanity to defeat Godzilla. (GODZILLA: City on the Edge of Battle)

Mulu-elu Galu-gu (ムルエル・ガルグ,   Murueru Garugu) is a lieutenant colonel aboard the emigrant spaceship Aratrum who first appeared in the 2017 Godzilla film, GODZILLA: Planet of the Monsters.

The head of Project Mechagodzilla, Galu-gu was one of many Bilusaludo forced to abandon the Earth aboard the Aratrum when Mechagodzilla failed and the last of the United Earth's resistance against Godzilla was quelled. Galu-gu served aboard the emigration ship's Central Committee alongside chieftain Halu-elu Dolu-do, and was selected for the return operation to Earth after the ship's destination of Tau Ceti e was found uninhabitable. Galu-gu designed weaponry for and served in the battle against Godzilla Filius, but was separated from his comrades after Godzilla Earth emerged and attacked, and was captured by the indigenous Houtua. When the United Earth survivors were released by the tribe, Galu-gu learned that the Houtua were crafting their weapons from the same Nanometal used to build Mechagodzilla, and proposed a plan to recover this metal to use against Godzilla. The United Earth instead found Mechagodzilla City, where Galu-gu set into motion a final plan to destroy Godzilla using the City's armaments. However, Haruo Sakaki learned that Galu-gu intended to use Mechagodzilla City and its Nanometal to assimilate the entire planet, and was forced to destroy the City's control room to stop this, killing Galu-gu in the process.

Character Description

GODZILLA: Planet of the Monsters

Mulu-elu Galu-gu was a member of the team that constructed the ultimate anti-Godzilla weapon Mechagodzilla in Hamamatsu in 2046. However, just as Godzilla approached the city, the Bilusaludo scientists failed to activate the machine and were forced to evacuate when Godzilla breached their fortifications. Galu-gu was among the Bilusaludo who accompanied the humans that fled Earth aboard the Aratrum two years later. After 22 years of space travel, Galu-gu was a colonel aboard the ship and a subordinate to the Bilusaludo chieftain Halu-elu Dolu-do. When Haruo Sakaki's anti-Godzilla plan was published anonymously aboard the ship, the Exif archbishop Metphies visited Galu-gu in his quarters to discuss it. Galu-gu admitted he found the plan interesting, but had his doubts that humanity could have defeated Godzilla even with the proper strategy. Because of this, he said, the Exif never could have enslaved humanity using their cult. Metphies responded by saying there was no way of knowing who the Bilusaludo would have used Mechagodzilla against next if it had defeated Godzilla. Galu-gu laughed and said none of that mattered now that both races were stuck in the same situation as humanity.

When the Central Committee approved a plan to return to Earth and Haruo's plan to try and defeat Godzilla, Galu-gu was part of the force deployed to the planet's surface. Galu-gu was placed in charge of constructing new anti-Godzilla weaponry and preparing a trap for Godzilla in the Tanzawa Pass. As Galu-gu's Landing Ship approached the surface, he noticed something strike the ship, though he was unsure what it was. Upon emerging from the ship, he remarked that the Tanzawa Pass would have looked beautiful if the sun were shining. Galu-gu and his team got to work preparing their trap for Godzilla, but were informed that Colonel Eliott Leland had called off the operation and ordered a retreat after his company was attacked by Servum. Galu-gu was irritated that he went through all the trouble of building new weaponry just for it to go unused. However, as Leland's company was moving through the Tanzawa Pass, Godzilla appeared and approached them. Most of the company escaped, though Leland was killed by a blast of Godzilla's atomic breath. However, Galu-gu and Martin Lazzari were able to study data taken from the encounter with Godzilla and determined that the organ which produced his Asymmetrically Permeable Shield was located in his dorsal plates. Command of the operation was handed over to Haruo, who expressed his determination to finish Godzilla once and for all. Haruo asked Galu-gu to move his traps deeper into the Pass and prepare his units to carry out the operation.

After the Hover Bike fleet led by Rilu-elu Belu-be and Adam Bindewald lured Godzilla to the trap point, Galu-gu detonated explosive charges planted in the mountainside, burying Godzilla up to his chest in rubble. Galu-gu and his artillery unit opened fire on Godzilla with Multipodal Batteries, causing him to deploy his shield. However, while they were able to destroy Godzilla's dorsal plates and disable the shield during the brief window where it collapsed, his dorsal plates healed too quickly to allow the rest of Haruo's plan to be carried out. Haruo took matters into his own hands and jumped onto Godzilla's back while wearing a Powered Suit, and told Galu-gu to open fire. Galu-gu obliged, and the artillery destroyed Godzilla's dorsal plates once again. Haruo then planted an EMP Probe into Godzilla's body, and was joined by the rest of the Powered Suit team. This caused electromagnetic energy to build to critical levels inside of Godzilla, making him explode. In the aftermath of the battle, Galu-gu and Belu-be looked upon the remains of Godzilla and noted how truly bizarre and monstrous its biology was. Martin Lazzari believed they had killed a different Godzilla from the one which had driven humanity from the Earth, and his theory was proven correct when the original Godzilla emerged from a nearby mountain, now grown to over 300 meters in height. Haruo ordered everyone to retreat, and Galu-gu attempted to flee with many of the others on a Hover Bike. Godzilla destroyed most of the fleeing forces with his Super Oscillatory Wave and a shockwave from his tail, leaving Galu-gu's fate unknown.

GODZILLA: City on the Edge of Battle

Galu-gu was subsequently captured by the Houtua tribe and brought to the catacombs of their underground civilization. Galu-gu greeted Haruo and his comrade Rilu-elu Belu-be when the latter two were captured by the Houtua as well. He was of the belief the Houtua intended to sacrifice them all, and proposed the possibility thatthey would have to exterminate the entire civilization to escape. Martin Lazzari countered that he didn't believe the Houtua intended to kill them. Eventually, all of the captured survivors were brought before an altar in the Houtua village, where the priestesses Maina and Miana addressed them telepathically. Galu-gu remarked that rather than Japanese, he heard the twins' message in the Bilusaludo mother tongue. The survivors were permitted to leave the village, and began searching for a surviving downed Landing Ship, accompanied by Miana and Maina. During their mission they were attacked by several worm-type Servum. Maina and Miana fired arrows at the creatures which instantly killed them, catching Galu-gu's attention. After the battle, he asked to inspect the twins' arrows, but they warned that they were "poison." After Metphies and the other survivors appeared and rendezvoused with Haruo's party, Galu-gu and Belu-be pulled Haruo aside and excitedly told him they could beat Godzilla. They had learned that the Houtua crafted their weapons from Nanometal, the same autonomous metal used to build Mechagodzilla. If they could find the spot where they were harvesting the metal, Galu-gu said they could mobilize weapons capable of defeating Godzilla. Haruo agreed with their plan and the surviving United Earth members began searching for the source of the Nanometal. As the party passed through a cavern, Galu-gu and Belu-be began picking up a unique signal that could only have come from Mechagodzilla, meaning the machine was still alive somehow. When they emerged from the cavern they were attacked by two flying-type Servum, which were quickly skewered by Nanometal spikes that erupted from the ground. Everyone looked into the valley below and beheld a Nanometal reproduction of Mechagodzilla's development facility, which Galu-gu dubbed "Mechagodzilla City."

The United Earth entered the City's central building, where they found Mechagodzilla's intact head. Belu-be reactivated its artificial intelligence, causing computer screens to form in the control room. Galu-gu announced that they now had complete control over the City, and stated that they could now use it to deploy an overwhelming strategy against Godzilla. He modified the existing Powered Suits into new mechs called Vultures. Finally, he and Haruo revealed their plan to execute Godzilla. They would lure him to a capture point where he would be trapped by liquid Nanometal, after which flanking railguns on the City's buildings would open fire on his dorsal fins as his shield collapsed, disabling it. Then, EMP Harpoons would be fired into him, overloading him with electromagnetic energy until he exploded. The operation was set into motion, with Mechagodzilla City forming the necessary armaments. When Adam Bindewald and two other soldiers noticed the Nanometal consuming several Bilusaludo, they ran to Haruo and reported this. Haruo told Galu-gu to call for help, but Galu-gu told him this was no accident. These Bilusaludo, he said, had given up their physical bodies and individuality to become part of Mechagodzilla City, which he and Belu-be considered a great honor. Haruo was disgusted by this idea and argued over its morality with Galu-gu, but Yuko Tani broke up the fight by siding with the Bilusaludo. They soon learned that Mechagodzilla City had stopped secreting the fog that concealed it from Godzilla, which Galu-gu attributed to the collective intelligence of the City and the Bilusaludo which had fused with it. With Godzilla approaching, Haruo, Belu-be, and Yuko took command of the three Vulture units to distract Godzilla until the anti-Godzilla plan was ready for execution. As the Vultures dueled with Godzilla, Galu-gu was forced to detonate the trap point ahead of schedule as the other weapons were not yet completed. Godzilla followed the Vultures through a tunnel leading directly to the City, eventually reaching the capture point and becoming held in place by liquid Nanometal which hardened. The plan was put into action, with railguns destroying Godzilla's dorsal fins and EMP Harpoons being fired directly into his back. However, Godzilla simply converted the excess electromagnetic energy into heat, which began reaching inside the city. As the heat built to an intensity the soldiers could not withstand, Galu-gu had the Nanometal begin assimilating everyone in the control room. Horrified, Martin and the humans fled the City before the metal could consume them, causing Galu-gu to remark that they were too weak. With the Vultures' weapons unable to reach Godzilla, Belu-be proposed that they could nose-dive into his dorsal fins from the tropopause and cause him to explode. However, one part of the Vulture would be unable to withstand the heat long enough. Galu-gu, now assimilated by the Nanometal, contacted Haruo on a video screen and informed him that the vulnerable part was the pilot. He then triggered the Vultures' Nanometal to fuse with the pilots. Belu-be accepted the fusion, but Haruo and Yuko both resisted. Yuko tried to eject from her Vulture only for it to deactivate and fall, prompting Haruo to catch it with his. Galu-gu was bewildered when Haruo's body rejected the Nanometal fusion, and asked how it was possible. Metphies then contacted Haruo, warning him that after defeating Godzilla, Mechagodzilla City and its Nanometal would continue to proliferate until they had consumed the entire planet. Galu-gu angrily accused the Exif of betraying the Bilusaludo. Haruo flew his Vulture to the central building of the City and ordered Galu-gu to cease the Nanometal's encroachment. Instead, Galu-gu lectured Haruo about the fact that defeating Godzilla was outside the realm of human achievement. To defeat Godzilla, Haruo must give up his humanity, Galu-gu said. After a few moments of painful hesitation, Haruo was forced to open fire on the control room, destroying Mechagodzilla's head and killing Galu-gu. With the City deactivated and defenseless, Godzilla quickly resumed activity and destroyed it.

Quote

However, we failed in the construction of Mechagodzilla. And you couldn't brainwash Earthlings with your religion. That's history now. The what-ifs are only fairy tales.
