This article concerns an upcoming subject, and will be updated with new information as it arises.

Origins[3] is the working title of an upcoming MonsterVerse film set to be produced by Legendary Pictures.[2] Outside of some staff members, few details are currently known of the film, such as its expected release date or what monsters will appear in it. While the film is often reported as a Godzilla vs. Kong sequel by media outlets, even sometimes being called "Godzilla vs. Kong 2,"[4] it remains to be seen whether Godzilla or Kong will appear in it.

Development

On April 27, 2021, The Hollywood Reporter published a story which alleged that Legendary Pictures were in talks with Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard to direct another MonsterVerse movie, with Son of Kong a potential title.[5]

Close to a year later on March 20, 2022 (the 21st in Australia), Australian news outlet The Courier Mail broke the news on a new MonsterVerse film set to shoot in the country.[2] On March 24, the 1291st issue of Production Weekly confirmed Adam Wingard as director, along with returning MonsterVerse producers Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, and Eric McLeod. The issue also provided a contact email, "[email protected]," and connected it to the Son of Kong title.[1]

Deadline reported on May 12 that Dan Stevens will star in the film.[4] On May 19, Production Weekly #1299 reported the film's working title as Origins.[3]

Production

The still-untitled film is expected to film in parts of Queensland, Australia, including the Gold Coast,[6] in the summer of this year.[4] Both Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters had previously filmed in the state.
