Osamu Sakurai

Osamu Sakurai (桜井 修 Sakurai Osamu) is a character in the 1962 Godzilla film King Kong vs. Godzilla.

Osamu and his colleague Kinzaburo Furue meet with their employer Mr. Tako, who decides to send them to Faro Island to retrieve Farolacton berries and the island's inhabitant King Kong. Upon arriving on the island, the men are captured by the natives and told to leave at once. Sakurai bargains with them by giving a transistor radio to the chief and cigarettes to all of the islanders, including the children. They are allowed to stay, but a storm rolls in that Sakurai mistakes for the islanders' mysterious deity. He accuses them of being a foolish people for fearing thunder until he hears the roar of Kong, prompting him to begin praying alongside them. Eventually, the men resort to stealing from the islanders' Farolacton supply, but during the raid, a Giant Octopus attacks the island and is defeated by Kong. Kong then falls asleep after drinking a juice made from the berries, allowing Sakurai and company to begin pulling him to Japan by raft. During the voyage, Tako drops in from a helicopter to see his monster. When the ship has almost reached Japanese waters, naval authorities inform them that Kong is not to be brought to Japan, but the monster is accidentally freed in the ensuing commotion.
Sakurai is later chosen to aid Kong in his battle with Godzilla by putting him to sleep with drums and a recording, and then flying him to the monster's location. He observes their final battle.
