The Primitive Mothras (原始モスラ,   Genshi Mosura) are Cretaceous divine moth kaiju created by Toho that first appeared in the 1998 Toho film Rebirth of Mothra 3.

Name

While most publications refer to the creatures as simply Primitive Mothra, Rebirth of Mothra 3 Super Complete Works specifies them as Primitive Mothra Larva (原始モスラ幼虫,   Genshi Mosura Yōchū).[4]

Design

Although their imago form is never seen, the Primitive Mothras resemble most other examples of a Mothra larva. However, their skin appears to be much thicker and bears what seems to be armor plating. Unlike modern Mothras, the eyes of a Primitive Mothra do not glow, but are blue in color.

History

Heisei era

Rebirth of Mothra 3

Three Primitive Mothras first appeared after Rainbow Mothra killed Cretaceous Ghidorah. After diving into Mount Fuji, Rainbow Mothra was on the brink of death, and the three formed a cocoon around him, sealing him for millions of years so he could heal from his injuries. Regenerating from a tail severed during their battle, King Ghidorah reappeared to menace modern Japan, but Rainbow Mothra emerged from his cocoon as the powerful Armor Mothra and destroyed him.

Abilities

Movement

The Primitive Mothra larvae can travel on land at a maximum speed of 60 kilometers per hour, equivalent to that of Mothra Leo.[4]

Silk

Like all Mothra larvae, the Primitive Mothras are able to spray silk webbing from their mouths. Some sources utilize the name Excel Strings (エクセル・ストリングス) for the webbing, the same as the larval Mothra Leo's in the first Rebirth of Mothra.[5] Unlike Leo's, these strings had no rainbow aftershock.
