Randy Hernandez is a protagonist on the 1998 Godzilla based TV series Godzilla: The Series

History

Randy was kicked out of college for nondescript hacking of school computers, but he later came to work for Dr. Nick Tatopoulos. Randy is first seen in the first episode of the series New Family: Part 1, where he is established to be a young, fun-loving computer expert. At first he generally does not partake in dangerous missions, unless Monique Dupre is involved. As the series progressed, Randy returned to school. Randy had a lighthearted rivalry with Mendel Craven, but it dissipated as the series progressed. Randy also had a tendency to reprogram Mendel's prized creation N.I.G.E.L.'s linguistic protocols to give it various "personalities", especially ones borrowed from iconic movies and once even the voice of Craven's mother. Randy is shown to be generally unafraid of dangers faced by H.E.A.T., and assists them on each mission they undertake, during which Randy's hacking skills come in handy with various applications. He frequently cheers Godzilla on in battle. Randy was an integral part of making H.E.A.T. what it is, as it was Randy who named the group, but his original words for the H.E.A.T. Acronym were changed by Nick Tatopoulos and Elsie Chapman to reflect the group's scientific nature, and he painted the iconic shark face on the front of the teams boat, which he dubbed the Heat-Seeker.

One morning, H.E.A.T. was gathered to discuss their plan for investigating a recent rampage by an electrical mutation that Randy had seen on the news the night before. Randy and Elsie Chapman were tasked with investigating the building the monster had destroyed on its first rampage. This turned out to be the Manhattan Neural Center, where Sidney Walker, an insomnia patient, was being treated. Randy soon woke him up to speak with him, which ended up weakening the monster. Nick had Randy antagonize the man further, which Randy was able to pull off by belittling Walker's favorite baseball team, the New York Mets. H.E.A.T. then traveled halfway around the world to an island with an entire mutant ecosystem where Randy and Craven were left to repair the Heat-Seeker. After leaving the island, the team noted that Godzilla was still being attacked by unknown military vehicles that were becoming stronger than they had before. At this time, Randy began to hatch a plan to uncover their identity. He did not have much time to think before H.E.A.T. went to investigate missing swimmers on a shoreline coated with mysterious tar that drained electrolytes. The team assumed a group of Mutant Giant Squids were at fault when they attacked the ship, but the true culprit proved to be Crustaceous Rex, who was soon defeated by Godzilla. Craven, naturally, wanted to return home, and Randy was in disbelief at his cowardice. Godzilla then began to act hyperactive and agitated before discovering that Cameron Winter had been attempting to control Godzilla with a "Neural Stimulator". Luckily, with the help of N.I.G.E.L. they were able to remove the agitating tech, and Godzilla lead a one-lizard assault on Winter's base, and razed it to the ground before swimming back to New York under the moonlit sky.
