S.H. MonsterArts is a subline of Tamashii Nations' S.H. Figuarts line of super-articulated action figures. Beginning in November of 2011, the line initially started as a purely Godzilla-based assortment before eventually including other franchises such as Alien, Gamera, King Kong, Monster Hunter, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Predator, although Godzilla remains the primary focus.[1] The figures are distributed to the United States via BlueFin Industries with the sole exception being figures sold exclusively through the Bandai Premium Web Shop.

Main line

2011

Godzilla

The first figure in the line was based on the Godzilla suit used in Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. It was released on November 19, 2011 in Japan and December 20th, 2011 in the United States. A "first edition" release came with a blue atomic breath effect and a radiation wave base, while subsequent issues were replaced with a second edition lacking accessories and packaged in a smaller box. A reissue of the "second edition" variant was released in the summer of 2012. The figure was redecoed into the Meltdown Godzilla Comic Con Explosion Exclusive.

Mechagodzilla

This figure of Mechagodzilla from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II was released on December 3, 2011. Accessories included a Mega-Buster ray, an interchangeable Plasma Grenade lens, and optional flight parts. The figure was compatible with the Bandai Premium Web Shop Exclusive Garuda Set, which could plug into the back. In 2017, the figure was reissued with the Garuda and sporting a more metallic paint job as Super Mechagodzilla.

Godzilla Effects and Toho Ultimate Weapons Pack

A Bandai Premium Web Shop Exclusive released in December of 2011, this set features a red atomic heat beam for Godzilla, multiple military vehicles, the Super X2 and an assortment of Tamashii Stage Act arms and two display bases for the arms.

UX-01-92 Garuda

Released in 2012 as a Bandai Premium Web Shop Exclusive. Accessories include parts to combine it with the Mechagodzilla figure, a display stand featuring the United Nations Godzilla Countermeasures Center logo, G-Crusher cables for Mechagodzilla, and weapon effects.

SpaceGodzilla

Released on March 24, 2012 in Japan and April 24, 2012 in the United States. Accessories include a corona beam effect, a crystalline effect piece and a Tamashii Stage Act arm to hold the beam. Many collectors have reported the paint on the shoulder crystals to chip over time. The figure was repainted in 2018 as part of a Bandai Premium Web Shop Exclusive Set with LittleGodzilla.

MOGUERA

Released on May 12, 2012 in Japan and June 12, 2012 in the United States. Accessories include Plasma Cannon effect parts, Spiral Grenade Missile effect parts, pieces to replicate the flight mode, and two Tamashii Stage Act arms with city bases. The U.S. release's box reads "MOGUERA," with no periods after the letters and a "U," while the Japanese release's box reads "M.O.G.E.R.A.," with periods after each letter and without a "U", due to the Japanese acronym for the mecha's name simply being "Mobile Operations Godzilla Expert Robot Aero-type".

LittleGodzilla

A Bandai Premium Web Shop Exclusive, LittleGodzilla was released on June 15, 2012 in Japan and July 15, 2012 in the United States. Accessories include four crystals and two display stands.

Accessories include two exclusive stand bases, a Tamashii Stage Act arm, a uranium heat beam, a red spiral heat ray intended for the Godzilla figure, and a damaged Mechagodzilla head. A prototype for a brown variant of the figure based on Rodan's normal form in the film was seen on display alongside the Mechagodzilla figure, but has not been released.

King Ghidorah

A figure of King Ghidorah as he appears in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah was released on September 29, 2012 in Japan and October 29, 2012 in the United States. Accessories include three gravity beams, a display stand for said beams and three Tamashii Stage Act arms. Many initial reports of this figure featured its wings snapping at the base due to a fragile construction in the joints. Care must be taken when handling the wings and it is strongly cautioned to either refrain from moving them or to move them at their bases slowly to prevent any damage. This figure was repainted in 2015 as a Bandai Premium Web Shop Exclusive Poster Color version.

Godzilla (1995)

Released November 30, 2012 in Japan and December 30, 2012 in the United States, this figure is an entirely new mold from the initial Godzilla release, complete with an expanded range of articulation. Accessories include two Maser Freeze tanks (an MBT-MB92 and a CLT-95) and two interchangeable claws. This figure was repainted multiple times, first as the Godzilla 1995 Birth Version in 2014, then as the Bandai Premium Web Shop Exclusives "Ultimate Burning Godzilla" in 2016, then as the Neon Genesis Evangelion-inspired repaint dubbed Godzilla feat. Eva-01 and the Noriyoshi Ohrai Poster Version, both released in 2017.

The Juvenile Form figure is noticeably inaccurate to the film, featuring crab-like claws on the front of its body and two spear-like claws extending from its back, features exclusive to the Aggregate Form. It is possible that this figure is meant to represent the multiple small Aggregate Destoroyahs that attacked Burning Godzilla in the film rather than the monster's Juvenile Forms.

Tamashii MIX

At Tamashii Nations' special event in late October 2016, the company revealed its new subline of figures, Tamashii MIX. These figures are distinguished from standard S.H. MonsterArts figures by their ability to change into many forms.[22]

Mechagodzilla (Noriyoshi Ohrai Poster Ver.)

The Tamashii MIX Poster Version Mechagodzilla was first seen in a Japanese magazine along with a Heisei Godzilla figure with blue dorsal plates, recreating Noriyoshi Ohrai's advance poster artwork for Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II. A prototype of the figure was finally revealed at a special Tamashii Nations event on October 28, 2016, alongside the standard line's upcoming Godzilla 2016 figures and Super Mechagodzilla figure. Following the gimmick of the Tamashii MIX subline, the figure can split apart into multiple vehicles, as this version of Mechagodzilla did in early story drafts for Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II.[22] The figure was released in September 2017, alongside the S.H. MonsterArts Godzilla Poster Ver. figure.[16]

The figure includes a pack-in manga upon release, explaining its origin. The figure is able to convert into three vehicles, the Garuda, the Gundalva, and the Naga. The figure features a flight stand for the Garuda. [23]

Light Sound Songs

Godzilla (1989)

Godzilla 1989 was intended as the first figure of this line, announced on May 23, 2016. It features glowing dorsal fins and mouth, roars, and the ability to play Godzilla's theme from Godzilla vs. Biollante.

Unreleased figures

Utsuno Ikusagami

Info to be added.

Rodan (1993)

A prototype for a brown variant of the figure based on Rodan's normal form in the film was seen on display alongside the Mechagodzilla figure, but has not been released.

Light Sound Songs Shin Godzilla

On November 30, 2017, Tamashii unveiled a Light Sound Songs Shin Godzilla figure to commemorate their 10th anniversary. It has yet to be released.

Acrylic logos

These are logos made out of acrylic that can be paired up with figures of the line.

Bootlegs

A bootleg Showa King Ghidorah first appeared on AliExpress, but has since migrated over to eBay, where it is still being sold. It is unknown whether the sculpt is a recast of an existing Ghidorah 1964 prototype, or if it is a new sculpt.

Trivia

  • S.H. MonsterArts figures were used to help develop the characters' models for the monsters in the 2014 video game Godzilla for the PlayStation 3 and 4.[citation needed]
