— SSS9, after killing a group of Bio-Major mercenaries (Godzilla vs. Biollante)

SSS9 is a Saradian agent who appeared in the 1989 Godzilla film, Godzilla vs. Biollante.

Name

SSS9's name stands for Saradian Secret Service agent 9. SSS9 is never actually referred to by any name in Godzilla vs. Biollante, only called the "Saradian agent" by John Lee.

Design

SSS9 dresses distinctively in a pinstripe suit with a full beard and aviator sunglasses, and is shown to have remarkable aim as a sniper.

History

Heisei era

Godzilla vs. Biollante

SSS9 was sent to retrieve samples of Godzilla's cells from the ruins of Tokyo in 1984. He did so by waiting for a trio of Bio-Major agents to get the cells for him, then he ambushed them and killed them, stealing the cell samples and taking them back to his homeland, Saradia. Five years later, SSS9 was sent to Japan to steal the Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria for Saradia's own purposes. This again brought him into conflict with Bio-Major, specifically its agents Michael Low and John Lee, the latter of whom SSS9 would ultimately kill. He succeeded in stealing the ANEB after killing Lee.

Later, though, after Major Sho Kuroki and Lieutenant Goro Gondo stole back the ANEB from one of Saradia's Japanese offices, SSS9 was told by his superior, Abdul Zaruman, to assassinate Dr. Genichiro Shiragami so that Japan could never make any more ANEB, in the hopes that Godzilla may eventually return and destroy Japan, undaunted by the humans' inventions. SSS9 waited until after the Self-Defense Forces had used the ANEB, in combination with heating pads, to seemingly kill Godzilla, before he shot and killed Dr. Shiragami. He then attempted to escape in his car but was pursued by Kazuto Kirishima who forced him off the road. SSS9, unknowingly standing on one of the gargantuan heating pads, prepared to shoot Kazuhito only to be killed when Major Kuroki activated the pad, incinerating the killer.

Trivia

  • SSS9 is likely based on the character Malmess from Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, another sniper rifle-wielding political assassin who is almost always dressed in a suit and wearing sunglasses.
  • SSS9's actor Manjot Bedi originally came onto the set of Godzilla vs. Biollante to act as an interpreter for the English-speaking actors playing Bio-Major operatives. Director Kazuki Omori then decided to cast Bedi to play SSS9.
