Sei Ikeno (池野 成,   Ikeno Sei) was a Japanese composer and an apprentice of Akira Ifukube. He studied at the Tokyo School of Music,[1] and in 1952 was awarded 2nd prize of the orchestra section at the 21st Japan Music Competition for his Introduction et allegro symphonique.[2] He worked on his first known film two years later in 1954, serving as an assistant composer under Ifukube on Toho's Godzilla. In 1956, he scored his first film, Daiei's River of the Night. He continued composing for film throughout the 1960s and into the 70s, scoring nearly 150 films in total, including The Secret of the Telegian and Yokai Monsters: Spook Warfare, as well as the popular Zatoichi series. During this period, he also worked with Ifukube on several more entries in the Godzilla series, and reunited with him in the 1990s to work as an assistant on Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla II.[1] Ikeno passed away on August 13, 2004[2] at age 73 due to lung cancer.[3] One of his students was Kan Sawada, who would go on to compose, among other things, the score to the 2021 Godzilla television series Godzilla Singular Point.[4]
