The Sirenjaw is a giant crocodilian superspecies that first appeared in the second issue of the 2017 Legendary Comics series Skull Island: The Birth of Kong.

Name

The Sirenjaw's cryptozoological classification, Gigantus Crocodiliad, comes from the English words "gigantic" and "crocodilian."

Design

The Sirenjaw is a large reptilian monster somewhat resembling a crocodile, covered in grass and roots, and sometimes even trees on its back. It has a large jaw with sharp teeth in it. The monster also has a pair of small orange eyes. When it is half in water, it resembles an island, and the monster uses this camouflage to ambush and catch prey.

Behavior

Sirenjaws are omnivores and ambush predators.[1] The specimen in Skull Island: The Birth of Kong had enough self-preservation to break off its attack on a group of Iwi and Monarch agents when it heard Kong's roar, although the Titan killed it anyway. In general, they act similar to alligators and crocodiles, although they are less inclined to interact with others of their kind or even move as they age.[3] Some animals choose to live on the backs of mature Sirenjaws who have become overgrown with greenery, as the creatures feed on their predators, although they must be small enough to escape the Sirenjaws' notice or be able to cling to their sides when they turn over.[4] They count Mire Squids among their prey, although older and larger Mire Squids sometimes prevail in these confrontations.[2]

Comics

Skull Island: The Birth of Kong

"The Mountain who Thunders Death"

The Monarch group and the Iwi were on something they thought was an island, but then it turned out the island was actually a Sirenjaw. The monster attacked the Monarch group and the Iwi, but then retreated as it heard King Kong's roar.

"Valley of the Fallen Gods"

Aaron Brooks and the Monarch team followed the sound of Kong's roar, hoping to see him in person, but found only the carcass of the Sirenjaw that had attacked them, killed by Kong. Several Psychovultures and Death Jackals descended on the area to feed on the corpse, prompting the humans to leave.

Books

Godzilla vs. Kong: The Official Movie Novelization

A Sirenjaw attacks Jia's family as a perpetual storm ravages Skull Island. Her sister lifts her onto a tree before a rush of water sweeps her away. Kong takes notice of Jia and rescues her.

Abilities

Swimming

The Sirenjaw can swim.

Camouflage

Sirenjaws who have reached maturity are so inactive that flora will grow on their backs.[3] When partially submerged, a Sirenjaw can be easily mistaken for an island or section of shoreline; even its open jaws resemble a cave.[3] Consequently, prey will sometimes wander directly into its mouth, and it will throw sufficiently large animals off its back and devour them before they can escape onto land.[3] One specimen attempted the latter technique with a team led by Aaron Brooks, although the humans fell back onto land and outran it long enough for Kong to intervene.

Physical abilities

Sirenjaws attack through biting or thrashing.[5]
