History

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla

While exploring Gyokusen Cave in Okinawa, Masahiko Shimizu came upon a shard of Space Titanium, which he brought to Professor Hideto Miyajima's lab near Mount Fuji. Miyajima determined that the metal was Space Titanium, meaning it did not come from Earth. Masahiko's brother Keisuke later found a larger chunk of Space Titanium at the site of Godzilla's battle with Anguirus. He brought the metal to Miyajima, who confirmed that it was the exact same metal that Masahiko had found. They all then traveled to Tokyo to get a closer look at Godzilla. While Godzilla laid waste to the port area, they witnessed a second Godzilla erupt from beneath a building and attack the other one. When this Godzilla landed a blow on the other one's back, it exposed a huge patch of Space Titanium under its skin. Miyajima finally realized that the Godzilla which had come out of Mt. Fuji and fought Anguirus was a cyborg built entirely from Space Titanium, a "Mechagodzilla," so to speak. Once Mechagodzilla retreated after knocking Godzilla into Tokyo Bay, Miyajima decided to investigate Gyokusen Cave with Masahiko, believing Mechagodzilla was being remotely controlled by aliens.

Terror of Mechagodzilla

Following the destruction of Mechagodzilla at the hands of Godzilla, the submarine Akatsuki searched the waters off of Okinawa for the robot monster's wreckage. The sub was equipped with a scanner set to specifically search for Space Titanium. To the crew's shock, the sub could not detect a single piece of Space Titanium on the sea floor. The Akatsuki was subsequently attacked and destroyed by Titanosaurus, and the surviving crew abducted and enslaved by the Black Hole Planet 3 Aliens. The aliens had actually salvaged all of the wreckage of Mechagodzilla, and were busy at work rebuilding it as the improved Mechagodzilla 2 in their underground base at Mount Amagi.

Capabilities

Durability

Space Titanium is extremely strong and durable, possessing 10 times the strength of steel[1] and proving immune to both conventional weaponry and the majority of Godzilla and King Caesar's attacks. Space Titanium is also ferromagnetic, which proved to be the downfall of the first Mechagodzilla model when Godzilla was able to harness magnetic forces in his own body and pull Mechagodzilla into his grasp.

Space Titanium was an alloy developed by the United Earth with the cooperation of the Bilusaludo aliens. It was used to construct the armor of the Type-38 Mobile Combat Uniform Jaguar J and G-HED. Space Titanium would eventually be rendered obsolete once the Bilusaludo developed and perfected the autonomous metal substance known as Nanometal.

Trivia

  • According to Christian Gonzalez's reference sheet for the Nebulans in Godzilla Rivals: Vs. Gigan, the Nebulans' UFOs include Space Titanium plating, due to being made up of scavenged parts from other alien ships.
