Spideros (スパイダウロス,   Supaidaurosu) is a spider kaiju created by Toho that first appeared in the episode 9 of the 1973 tokusatsu kaiju show Zone Fighter, titled "Search for the Secret of the Red Spider!"

Design

Spideros is bipedal with three pairs of arms, and the majority of his body being covered in black and yellow-striped fur. He has an orange, insectoid head with a single row of three long spikes and a pair of yellow eyes; a dark grey, smooth torso with red abs on his front and a single orange spike on his back; a pair of main arms with four orange claws on each hand and two pairs of thinner arms that have pincers of the same color; a pair of thick legs with a single curved claw on each foot; and a round abdomen with one row of three orange spikes and two rows of three yellow spots going down his topside.

History

Zone Fighter

"Search for the Secret of the Red Spider!"

After the Garoga Spider drinks blood from a gorilla, transforming it into Garoga Gorilla, the Garogas launch a Terror-Beast missile, containing the arachnid kaiju Spideros. Spideros didn't seem like much of a threat at first but he managed to trap Zone Fighter in his web-spray. Zone Angel and Zone Junior arrived in the nick of time and burned the webbing away with their beams and recharged Zone Fighter with the Beam Lamps. Zone Fighter then went on to defeat Spideros reasonably easily.

"The Terror-Beast Base: Invade the Earth!"

Spideros briefly appears via flashback as the Garogas contemplate the many defeats they have suffered at the hands of Zone Fighter, exploding as he is hit by an unseen attack. Strangely, this Spideros has only two arms and blue stripes.

"Carnage! Zone & Godzilla vs. the Allied Terror-Beast Forces!"

A resurrected Spideros fought Zone Fighter and Godzilla, along with fellow Terro-Beast Garoborg, before it was finished off by Godzilla once and for all.

Abilities

Physical abilities

While Hikaru was still in his human-sized form, Spideros attempted to crush him with his claws multiple times. After Zone had turned into his giant form, Spideros curled up on the floor and waited for Zone Fighter to rush at him before jumping up and flipping the hero over once Zone had jumped on top of him. After covering Zone in some of his silver thread, Spideros closelined the hero after Zone Fighter tried to charge the arachnid.

Silver thread

Spideros can fire silver thread (銀色糸,   gin'iro ito)[3] from his mouth, which was able to immobilize and cover Zone Fighter in a matter of seconds. However, it was completely dissolved by beams fired by Zone Angel and Zone Junior.

Venomous horns

According to All Kaiju Kaijin (First Volume), Spideros's horns are venomous, with even one prick being able to take down an opponent.[3] Although Spideros attempted to impale Zone Fighter with his horns, he was unable to land a single stab with them.

Flight

Spideros is capable of gliding flight; his means of propulsion are unknown. He used his flight in order to attack Zone Fighter, flying directly into him while attacking with his claws and horns, while also trying to ram into the hero. Spideros slammed into Zone Fighter while flying, knocking the hero over.

Lasers

In his second appearance, Spideros could fire a trio of red lasers from his mouth, which knocked Hikaru off his feet but otherwise left him unharmed.

Parachutes

After being deployed and bursting from the Terror-Beast Missile, Spideros slowly descended to the ground with the help of three parachutes which detached upon landing.

Roar

Spideros reuses roars from the Return of Ultraman kaiju Ghostron.

Trivia

  • Spideros is one of the few returning Terror-Beasts not to be defeated by the titular character a second time, instead falling to Godzilla in its second appearance.
