Star Godzilla (Sutāgojira,   スターゴジラ) is an unmade 1980 Godzilla film.

History

To be produced by Hong Kong's First Distributors (H.K.) Ltd., Star Godzilla was announced with a poster in the pages of the May 7, 1980 issue of Variety. Although nothing is known about the proposed plot, the ad art depicts Godzilla, King Kong, and Anguirus among a burning city, surrounded by UFOs and various military vehicles. It's believed that threat of legal action from Toho put an end to the project.[1] The ad cites Futien Hsu as director, Joy Hsu as producer, Chris Lee as screenwriter, and a cast of Joey Fang, Chang Ching, and Charles Woo.

Trivia

  • King Kong appears in the ad courtesy of art lifted from the advertising campaign for Dino De Laurentiis' King Kong.
  • Star Godzilla was "reviewed" by Stomp Tokyo Video Reviews' Scott Hamilton and Chris Holland on April 1, 1998 as an April Fools' Day prank.[2] Screenshots from One Crazy Summer (1986) and a doctored screenshot from Infra-Man (1975) were used to represent the film.
