MUTOs being insects

While the special effects supervisor states that he wouldn't classify them as insects, the not only do they resemble insects and have an insectoid lifecycle, but the novelization gives them even more insectoid traits. When describing FemMUTO, the author says, "Serizawa would have labeled it some manner of gigantic semi-arthropod. Its dark, iridescent exoskeleton, composed of a thick, chitinous material," (page 179). Only insects and similar creatures, (spiders, lobsters, etc) feature exoskeletons, same with chitin, as it is exclusive to arthropods. Their lifecycle is even more reminiscent of insects such as butterflies and Tarantula Hawks (A type of Wasp). Like Tarantula Hawks, the eggs are inserted into a host unwillingly, (like with MUTO Prime) before hatching out of the creature as larva before pupating (like seen with HokMUTO after destroying Janjira. The extreme sexual dimorphism (the two genders of the creatures being different outside of genitalia) shown in MUTOs are also most common in insects. There are a few other things I could mention, but I won't because they are very minor. So, while yes, MUTOs were stated by one of the people in-charge of its design said it wasn't along with the FeMUTO having an internal spine muddy the water, I believe they are most likely insects or another type of arthropod. Though I would like to know if people disagree. -BoopN00dle

My two cents on the MUTOs

When the Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms first made their debut back in 2014, they were met with...mixed reception, to say the least. I personally think they're one of the most intriguing kaiju to ever grace the screen.

First off, I felt like they kind of represented an interesting classic vs. new dichotomy with their ancient adversary, Godzilla. We all know the silhouette of the King of the Monsters well; that lumbering, spiny-backed theropod-esque monster has been engrained in Japanese and American cultures since the 1950s. By contrast, the MUTOs are sleek, aerodynamic, and far weirder looking in appearance by comparison. These look like creatures made for a society that wants to see more original concepts than radioactive dinosaurs.

Not that I'm dishing Godzilla here. He's lasted this long for a good reason.

But my biggest appreciation for the MUTOs comes in the challenge the represent to humanity. Almost every good monster has some kind of allegory running behind it in one way or another. With Godzilla, it was the looming threat of nuclear power, and what it might unleash if used incorrectly.

But remember; the MUTOs biggest advantage over humanity in the 2014 film was their Electromagnetic Pulse, which fried all electronics that happened to be nearby. Now really think about it: we're a society that's totally dependent on electricity and artificially generated power. The MUTOs can take that away without a care in the world. Look how we get when we can't get service or internet connection. Many of our businesses are now built around electronic communication. This terrifying aspect of the MUTOs is something that I honestly think is quite understated in the Godzilla fandom.

And that's my two-cents on the MUTOs. What do you think?

Male MUTO height

On April 9, 2020, Legendary posted a graphic on their Twitter giving exact height stats for the Male and Female MUTOs for the first time. Since then, the page has been subject to edit-warring by two users who insist that the graphic contains a typo and the Male MUTO should be 218 feet tall. While this theory has merit based on the monsters' relative sizes in the film, it is Legendary's responsibility to correct the record if they so choose, not ours. I tweeted at them for clarification on April 10; they have not responded. More problematic is the citation of a "correction" Tweet from MonsterVerse Mythology Manager George Tew which does appear to exist. For comparison, a real Tweet he made in reply to the same accounts at the same time:

Personally, I'm amenable to changing the heights in the infobox back to the bonus-feature numbers of 300 and 200 feet, with the newer stats of course mentioned in that lengthy note. Discuss away.--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 11:11, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

I asked for a link one time, and I got this as a reply: https://i.imgur.com/U9oncO9.png
That is still a screenshot.--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 11:44, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
Yes, but the person claims to have taken a screenshot of it before it was reportedly taken down.
After getting into an argument with someone about the Male MUTO's height in the same group. Very convenient. Conversely, I'm an idiot and didn't notice the purported correction Tweet was made two days after the real Tweet I posted. But exactly two days later, in reply to Legendary and the official James Bond Twitter? Still not buying it. Tweets are easy to fake. Why would Tew delete it anyway?--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 12:32, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
Now the possibility of it being fake is aknowledged there as well: https://i.redd.it/k7od7wflsks41.png BTW, are you Mario MJ Jones Jr. on Facebook? If yes, then how come you posted this possibly fake tweet in other groups on Facebook?
I am not.--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 12:53, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
Oh, okay. I was wondering because I (Márk Moldován) was arguing with the guy about the height possibly being a typo in another group (in Godzilla Fan Club instead of Godzilla's Official Kaiju Fan Club), and he posted this possibly fake tweet today as an admission that he was apparently wrong.
