Teizo Toshimitsu (利光 貞三,   Toshimitsu Teizō) was a Japanese sculptor and monster modelling artist. First becoming involved with Toho in 1942,[1] Toshimitsu pioneered the creation of kaiju suits for Godzilla in 1954, alongside Eizo Kaimai and the Yagi brothers. As the company continued to produce tokusatsu films, Toshimitsu took the role of chief modeler, specializing in kaiju faces and maquette prototyping. He is credited with participating in every Toho kaiju film from 1954 to 1970, leaving the company in 1971 after the dissolution of Toho Studios' Special Technology Division.[1] Toshimitsu worked freelance in the 1970s, notably designing the monster Sartan for Tsuburaya Productions' Return of Ultraman and providing monster designs for the Toho Planning series Go! Godman. Though Toshimitsu's tenure at the company ended after Godzilla vs. Hedorah, the King Ghidorah and Godzilla suits he worked on for Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster and Destroy All Monsters, respectively, would go on to appear in Godzilla vs. Gigan. Toshimitsu was succeeded by his apprentice Nobuyuki Yasumaru, who became chief modeler at Toho's new special effects production subsidiary, Toho Eizo. Toshimitsu passed away sometime in 1982.
