"The Earth Defense Force") is a 1957 tokusatsu science fiction film directed by Ishiro Honda and written by Shigeru Kayama, Takeshi Kimura, and Jojiro Okami, with special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya. Produced by Toho, it was the company's first alien invasion film. It stars Kenji Sahara, Yumi Shirakawa, Momoko Kochi, Akihiko Hirata, Takashi Shimura, Susumu Fujita, and Hisaya Ito. The film was released to Japanese theaters on December 28, 1957. An English-dubbed version of the film was prepared by RKO Radio Pictures and released to American theaters by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer on May 27, 1959.[3] |
