The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (東京都庁舎 is a complex of three skyscrapers located in Shinjuku, Tōkyō-to Chōsha)Tokyo, with Building No.1 being the tallest. Opened in 1991, the building houses the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, which governs over the entire Tokyo Metropolitan area. Alongside the National Diet Building and Tokyo Tower, the Metropolitan Government Building has become a prominent landmark in the years since its construction. In the Godzilla franchise, the Metropolitan Government Building first appeared in the 1991 Toho film Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah.

Heisei Era
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah
During Godzilla's final battle against Mecha-King Ghidorah in Tokyo, the Futurian cyborg managed to force Godzilla into the Shinjuku Ward, and soon the two monsters were fighting right next to the Metropolitan Government building. After being struck by Mecha-King Ghidorah's attacks, Godzilla crashed straight through the skyscraper's midsection, leaving only its two towers standing.
Trivia
- The use of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah marks its first major appearance in a film. The building opened only eight months before the film was released.
