What would you say are the most reliable subtitles for the Heisei Godzilla films?

The King of the Monsters (talkcontribs)

It depends on the film honestly, as the subtitles on some of Sony's Blu-ray releases are just dubtitles, while others like Godzilla vs. Destoroyah have pretty accurate translations of the Japanese dialogue. The Showa Video fansubs on Archive are reasonably accurate for the most part, though they tend to inaccurately romanize names and at some points appear to make up translations. They are probably more accurate than dubtitles, but aren't perfect.

Thanks for the response! So Godzilla vs. Destoroyah's Sony Blu-Ray subtitles are accurate, what about Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, Godzilla vs. Mothra, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, and Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla? And how good are the fansubs on Archive for the Heisei films?

Astounding Beyond Belief (talkcontribs)

Sony's Blu-rays for the non-Destoroyah Heisei films alternate between dubtitles and actual translations. (Heaven knows why.) Tokyo Monsters also has fansubs for some or all of these movies which can still be downloaded via archive.org. Can't speak to their accuracy as I don't know Japanese, but they're out there.
