Godzilla vs. Godzilla is an unmade Godzilla film, acting as a continuation of the Heisei era Godzilla series and a sequel to the also unmade 1994 American Godzilla film.

Plot

As a second Godzilla appears, the Earth is hanging in the balance as it does battle with the original Godzilla.

History

With anticipation for TriStar's Godzilla film in full swing, Shogo Tomiyama had pitched a possible sequel to both it and Toho's Heisei Godzilla series during the early stages of Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. However, it had turned out Toho had a policy stating that there could not be a "true" Godzilla vs. Godzilla film. Even if this policy had not existed, this possible film was fully scrapped the following year. With Toho ending the Heisei Era with Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, and TriStar's film going through a complete overhaul with Jan De Bont leaving the project, being replaced by Roland Emmerich, eventually leading to the finished product being released in 1998. Something similar to the Japanese Godzilla going up against his American counterpart did happen eventually, with Godzilla: Final Wars introducing the new monster Zilla, a kaiju that was almost an exact copy of the 1998 Godzilla, and having him do battle with Godzilla in that film.
